Salutations, greetings, a hearty hello, a handshake, and various other ways to tell a person you are meeting them. My name is CJ1145, and I've been RPing around here for a couple years now. I've even run an RP, now, and I have to say it's been quite a lot of fun for me. Lately I got it into my head that I should start up another one. Is this a GOOD idea? Questionable. Am I going to do my best to at least make it FUN? Yes.
So, the question was, what do I have enough knowledge of/enthusiasm about to write an RP about, that doesn't already have forty incarnations in the first ten pages?
Damn. Is that all I got? Guess so. Anyways, so yeah, Gundam! I watched a few of the shows when I was a little kid, specifically G and Wing, and started watching a few of the older series as I grew up. They were corny as hell, being from the 80s, but surprisingly dark, and have enough material to be fun RP-fodder. So, put simply, this RP will be taking place during the One Year War of the UC timeline. Do these terms mean shit to you? Then read this handy little spoiler, and I'll do my best to elaborate!
In 1979, the world was introduced to the world of Gundam, headed by Yoshiyuki "Kill 'Em All" Tomino. Back then, Japanese animation was dominated by the "super robot" genre, where the mechs were generally treated as superpowered, over-the-top powerhouses with larger than life individuals piloting them. Superheroes, really. Gundam changed all that, and was the pioneer of the "real robot" genre. Here, the titular Gundam is no out-of-the-ordinary savior vehicle; it's a piece of military hardware, and rather than fighting off some alien or demonic nemesis, it's taking part in a very brutal, very real war, where its actions aren't so black-and-white.
I won't go into too much detail on the meta aspects, but suffice to say it's become a mainstay in anime, dominating nearly three decades, and even after its peak has remained a defining aspect of robot anime.
You'll be participating in the UC, or Universal Century timeline, where the original show and its sequels take place. Specifically, in the One Year War that dominated the first series.
In 1999 AD, the Earth Federation was formed, uniting all nations under a single banner. At the same time, work began on an effort to send human colonists into space. Construction would begin on the first of these colonies in 2045 AD. These colonies would be called Sides, and when the first of seven was completed, and the population of Earth reached 9 billion individuals, colonization began. This marked the switch to the new Universal Century era calendar.
More and more humans emigrated, until 9 of 11 billion humans lived in space. One man, Zeon Zum Deikun, preached to the people living these colonies, or "Spacenoids", that humanity should complete its move to space, and to leave the Earth to its own and in peace. His ideology picked up momentum, and in U.C. 0058 one of the colonies, Side 3, fell in behind him. They established a new nation, the Republic of Zeon, separate from the Earth Federation.
Though his methods and intentions were ultimately peaceful, Zeon was considered a threat. The Earth Federation began a build-up of arms against him, should he become too much of a threat. Though he may have maintained peace, Zeon could not live forever, and died of mysterious circumstances in U.C. 0068, just three short years after his public falling-out with the influential Zabi family.
As it happened, it was the Zabi family who inherited Zeon's position as head of the Republic. Specifically, Degwin Sodo Zabi, his former advisor. His methods were not quite so peaceful as his predecessor, and began a massive arms buildup to counter the Earth Federation. He tolerated no resistance to his actions, and began a massive purge of all those still loyal to Zeon. In U.C. 0069, he declared the Republic of Zeon dismantled.
In its place was the Principality of Zeon, where he and his children would rule as sole sovereigns. Though powerful, they were no threat until they unveiled their greatest technological marvel: the Mobile Suit.
Beginning with the MS-05 Zaku I, the Zeon forces immediately held a piece of weaponry that nothing in the Federation's arsenal could hope to counter. The next decade was nerve-wracking, as tensions rose between the Federation and Zeon, who held a cold war by supporting various splinter groups in the Side colonies. Zeon prevailed in these proxy-conflicts, and Side 6 declared its independence as a sovereign nation, the Reah Republic as a result.
In U.C. 0078, things finally came to a head as the Federation began the RX Project, a secret initiative to develop their own mobile suits, while at the same time the Principality of Zeon went into a state of national mobilization. Just a few short months later, on January 3rd, U.C. 0079, Zeon declared war on the Earth Federation.
And just a few short seconds afterward, they launched their attacks, catching the Federation off guard, and began to indiscriminately launch biological and nuclear weapons of mass destruction at Sides 1, 3, and 4. The devastation is immense, and within the first week of the war between Zeon and Federation strikes, a full third of humanity was dead.
Zeon was not done yet. Attempting to assault the Earth Federation's primary headquarters at Jaburo, they dropped one of its captured space colonies out of orbit, and though they missed, their projectile crashed into Australia, devastating the continent and drastically changing the Earth's climate.
The Federation forces attempted to counter-attack, but in the devastating confrontation at Side 5, their entire fleet was eradicated, and their greatest leader, General Revil was captured by Zeon.
After this crippling loss, Federation and Zeon officials met in Antarctica to discuss peace. The Federation was prepared to surrender on that day, but by chance, General Revil had escaped his captors, and returned to Earth and to his people. He spoke to the world in a speech, declaring the Zeon was exhausted. They had fought their war to its full extent, and they were wearing thin. If the Federation could hold itself together, and bear through the pain, they would win, and they would destroy their enemies.
His ploy worked, and the people of Earth stood resolute against Zeon's demands. Though the war continued, the Antarctica Treaty forbid the use of nuclear weapons and colony drops to prevent unnecessary loss of life.
Shortly afterwards, Zeon demonstrated that the war was indeed not over. Led by Degwin's son, Garma Zabi, an Earth Invasion Force is formed and begins dropping all over the planet, quickly conquering territory and pushing back the desperate Earth Federation forces.
Though they were short in supply, the Federation had one last trick up its sleeve: its first wave of Mobile Suits.
Sorry for the wall. I know a lot of people know NOTHING of Gundam so I wanted to be comprehensive to some extent or another. Aaaanyways, this part is where the players come in. You lot shall be playing as either Earth Federation recruits, or members of the Zeon Invasion Force. Both sides are open, and I shall give you a sheet as well as a description of what's going on with you here.
But first, the setting. When the Zeon forces landed, California was one of the first places they took, allowing them to expand eastward at a rapid pace. (break-off from canon in 3...2...1...)
In a desperate gambit to halt the Zeon advance, the Federation unleashed a significant portion of their first wave of Mobile Suits to take on the Zeon Forces. A team of simulation-trained pilots, the best that the Federation had to offer, took their newly-christened suits into battle in a small city named Codswell somewhere in Colorado.
To call it a disaster was an understatement. The Zeon forces were beaten back, but at a devastating cost. All but two of the pilots were slaughtered in the battle, and only ten of the fifteen Federation Mobile Suits survived the battle. Attempting to salvage the operation, the Federation flew in recruits from anywhere they could find them with some capacity for piloting Mobile Suits, and placed them as the newest members of the unit, along with their supporting tank platoon.
They came just in time, as the next day the recuperating Zeon forces opted to move AROUND the city instead of through it, leaving a company of Suits to deal with the survivors in the city.
These two sides are who you all will be playing. Here are their pros and cons:
Federation:
PROS:
*Access to superior Mobile Suits at outset.
*Possession of city allows for easy defense.
*Superior weaponry
CONS:
*Maximum of 10 pilots, NPC or PC
*Less experienced pilots
*Behind enemy lines, repair parts will eventually run out.
*Suit upgrades will come more sporadically and less often than for Zeon
The ten who pick Federation will have two choices.
*Three Gundam Ground Types:
These suits are superior than the other seven, and are without a doubt the best Mobile Suits in action for a majority of the game. The downside is, repair parts are scarce, and in a pinch inferior parts will be needed as replacements. They are also heavier than their sister units, and can be a tad sluggish.
*Seven GM Ground Types:
This suit has slightly fewer weapons (all of which will be explained later), but has the benefit of more quantities of repair parts lying around, a greater sensor range to detect approaching enemies, and a minimal speed boost compared to the Gundam.
Zeon:
PROS:
*Strength in numbers
*More experienced pilots than Federation
*Will eventually receive Mobile Suits on more even terms with Federation
CONS:
*At outset, suits are far weaker than Federation's
*Inferior tactical position
*Early-mid weaponry has difficulty damaging suits.
Zeon forces (of which there could be any amount, really) only get one option of suit at the start, the Zaku II:
The first combat-designed Mobile Suit put into mass production, its armaments are more simple and less effective against other Mobile Suits. However, Zeon pilots shall get the option to upgrade to more advanced suits as time progresses.
PHEW!
I really hate writing so much. I don't know why I do it sometimes. So, if you managed to trudge through all of that, congratulations! I'm looking for about ten players, tops, so fill out a sheet if you're interested.
Also, if you'd LIKE to play a character that isn't a pilot, that is fine too, and depending on the amount may not count towards the ten-person size of this game.
And... I think that's everything? If you have any questions, feel free to ask! I am happy to clarify any points, as I can understand not wanting to scour the wall above me for something you may have missed.

Gender: (If you kick them in the crotch, how much does it hurt?)
Faction: (Earth Federation or Principality of Zeon. None of those damned neutrals here!)
Appearance: (Describe their looks here. This series is from the 80s, so don't bother with military regulation hair, but expect to be wearing simple clothes in combat.)
Mobile Suit: (Federation, select Gundam or GM. You MAY not get the one you want, depending on demand. Zeon, put Zaku II for now. If you don't want to be a pilot, don't put anything.
Specialization: (Non-pilots only, select what task your character fulfills. Be it tank pilot, medic, mechanic, cook, or communications.)
