You just found a wormhole into your bedroom when you were 8 years old.

And you can show your tiny 8-year old self ONE screenshot or maybe a little 30 second clip of any game you can think of. A new game, an old game, a semi-older but it's still technically new compared to your... yeah, you get it.

Which game do you show your little babbie jr. gamer self, what would the screen be and why?

For what purpose? I dun' know. Get hyped, change your gaming tastes or maybe even your gaming ability by playing a genre you didn't try until you were older (a la Fighting games), or just for shits and/or giggles.

For me?

I'd probably show myself a screenshot of Skyrim from the very top of the Throat of the World. I know... what an original answer, but there is a reason.

Games like Ocarina of Time and Morrowind were so important to the development of my tastes as a gamer that I can't imagine being more excited for anything else at that age. I'd have patiently waited in the fetal position for the additional 8 years leading up to the game's release.

I would of course want to mention something like Dark Souls/Bloodborne, or Witcher 3 but I think being that young, those games wouldn't have actually appealed as much to me.

Also:

"Could I give my self a copy?"

Well... first you'd need a machine that can run it... but I didn't include that now did I?

Literally anything pretty. Like E3 Watch_Dogs screen caps. My 8 year self was a fucking idiot.

I would probably show my younger self a 360 or PS3 game (I haven't thought of a specific example) trying to telling him that being a Nintendo fanboy is a lost cause.

I'd show him thirty seconds of the final chase sequence of Halo 3 with the soaring music and everything being intense and wonderful. Thus he would be advised to buy Halo: CE and Halo 2 to play on his best friend's original Xbox, rather than playing them after-the-fact.

Then again, Halo 3 came out on my tenth birthday (in Europe, where I live, so), so it's not as if he'd have to wait long for the game. I wonder whether my 8 year old self would think Halo 2 looks as shit as I thought it did in 2009.

I'd show him any game menu where the developer is trying to sell you stuff instead of working on fixing the game or doing anything new or interesting. That should stop him from blissfully imagining some amazing gaming utopia, where we keep advancing and having deeper and more meaningful games.

30 seconds of video? I'd do 15 seconds of Halo post-Flood and 15 seconds of Metroid Prime. I'd tell my younger self that Prime lasts longer as well and to stick with Nintendo platforms...At least until the Wii. Nothing against the Wii but I've played more Wii games on the Wii U than I ever wanted to when I had access to the family's Wii. Before I'm sucked back to the present I'll also shout at myself about the value of independent shops, the internet and, there's always going to be a chance to go back and re-play games I may miss.

I'd mail myself a copy of the latest grand theft auto game. Why? I'd buy the hell out of its stock and be swimming in cash :p

Probably some stuff from Fallout 1. Young me was dumb enough to find RPG stuff exciting, so maybe I'd have actually gotten around to playing it back when I didn't have one million other things to be doing.

I'd show him a video of Minecraft and a very large sign at the end... "MAKE IT YOURSELF!"
Boom instant billionaire, sorry Notch but I need it more then you do, well I probably don't need it but I would prefer to be the one with an insane pile of money.

I would grow up always wondering why my penis looks so much like the one that ripped through the space time continuum while I was playing Spyro.

You know I can't for the life of me think of a game worthy of the wait. Even games I love, Dawn of War, Bioshock 1-3, Skyrim, blah blah blah...
I wouldn't tease little me with these games 10 years before they come out because no game is worth ten years wait. Just ask Duke Nukem how it worked out.
I was playing Conker's Bad Fur Day and Age of Empires II back then and I'm playing Dragon's Dogma and Earth Defense Force 2025 now. And in ten years I'll be playing Fallout 6 and LifeHack: Entropy's Shadow.

Leave it at that.

By the time I show him anything Kingdom Hearts-related, the concept of the first game would [still] mbe in its early production phase...

Other than that, I rather show him a [specific] porn clip than anything else... But, that would be assuming the wormhole went to a parallel world that takes place in our past, kinda...

Can I attach a short message as well?

Terranigma. Sure, it'll only be a few years before it comes out, but that game was cheap in my region for years. Ideally my young self will buy multiple copies when the price is low and sell them later, when the price has skyrocketed back to MRSP and more. This will mean a significant increase in her allowance, meaning she'll be able to get several games I didn't, like Brigandine.

Other than that I think it'd be cruel to send her something recent. 3D was still something that was super amazing and the best think ever, I don't want her to know that it'll be another ten years or so before it doesn't look like polygonal vomit.

A promotional screenshot of Skyrim with a smaller picture paper clipped to it with a message written on it.

I'd show my 8-year old self a screenshot of Freespace 2, it's a game I really should've played a lot sooner in my life than I did, actually I'd show him a screenshot of the Source Code Project-enhanced version of the game just to make sure he's interested.

dark cloud 2, i didn't find this gem until i was 19. if i had known about it sooner, the more time i could have invested into it. though 8 year old me might have a hard time believing that dark cloud 2 becomes his favorite game from just the box art.

As tempted as I am to suggest something that would scar my past self for life, I'd have to go with Pokemon X. I didn't do much gaming back then but I did like Pokemon and it would have blown my mind to see a full 3D Pokemon game on a handheld (we're talking about a time when the Gen 2 games were still new and exciting).

8 year old? ... Wait... Did i even play games back then!?

... yeah... Just about.

Pff... I guess showing the 8 year old me Ocarina of Time or something like that would be my best bet...
Don't know how effective it'd be though.

I'm trying to remember what that version of me was like... And I'm really not sure I could show them anything that would truly impress them enough to make this whole thing worthwhile...

Probably not my first choice of thing to do if I were to time travel...
