I hear a lot of people argue, going to a middleclass high school with all the diversity of Wonder Bread, and there are so few people whose opinion doesn't immediately backfire on them that a point as been reached where pure, unbridled idiocy reigns supreme over those not interested enough to tear the propogator to tiny shreds.

Now I know we've already descussed the stupidest thing someone has ever said, but that can come in at any time in a conversation. Now I ask you:

At the end of an argument, what was the final, closing statement made by the opposition that was so COMPLETELY IDIOTIC that YOU forfeited so you could keep some IQ?

Mine was, discussing the LHC: You know, a black hole really couldn't destroy the planet. I mean, don't we have things, like, guns and stuff, that'd just, I don't know, turn it into a light hole?

Light Hole. Absoloute brillaince. XP
But my one - i hear this almost all the time in gaming discussions - "The graphics on game (X) Is shit, so it's not worth playing.". X game is often SSBB, Megaman games or Runescape.

Frankly, it's a tried-and-true arguing method called "I yell louder, for longer, without budging my opinion." S'why I don't get into arguments. It's either a debate, or I ignore it.

More likely than not, I'll probably ignore it.

"Fine. Shut the fuck up and get a job."

How my ***** of a grandmother ends every conversation we have, despite the fact that I have a job. *****.

Here's another classic. I was trying to explain to someone how you can't have an engine that propels you to lightspeed (yes, my mind works on these odd things in moments of boredom) because

a) The vibration caused by such an engine would destroy a spaceship before it even got a tenth of a way there and

b) even if the engines were to accelerate, the ship wouldn't so the ship would be devoid of engines

and she said (and I quote)

"Well if it works on TV, why wouldn't it work in the real world?"

at which point I just walked away.

...maybe that's not the best example.

Apologies if I've confused any of you.

Not to go off-topic, but in all serious Runescape is without a doubt the worst MMORPG still running, its graphics are terrible, community awful, game-world (small), and gameplay offerings (clicking on the same thing a thousand times, yet you don't actually even have to play, because combat is automatic) etc...

The worst I heard (on a gmaing forum) is that : "MGS will be game of the year because its snakes last game"

I mean, what kind of logic is that?

OR on Lionheads official forums:

"My brother used the glitch to get me millions on the pub games, but because it wasn't me who glitched will I still be effected?"

...

i think the worst was when one of my man hating roomates said "allowing women to carry self defense weapons wont stop a rape, the only way to stop rape is to teach men not to rape" at that point i just realized how out of touch with reality she truly was.

Well... we have the classics: "you eat shit" and "lose weight and get a job". I hear them all the time, especially when discussing sports.

Why?
Ionic drives don't rock the spaceship (so you can come knocking?)

The engines are attached to the ship and thus act as a single entity in spacey-maneuvers. Assuming a reasonable acceleration, you could hang off the engines with a really long rope and be fine.

I think it's more of a case that as the ships speed increases, the mass increases. The amount of thrust required to keep it accelerating as it gets close to light speed is more than we could ever possibly produce. Reaching light speed would require an infinite amount of thrust for anything with physical mass, I think, my physics lessons were a long time ago.

As for the original question, I got nothing, this is the only forum I frequent and there's a lack of complete fools here.

The most recent one was this (also about the LHC).

Guy: "The Collider thing will blow up the world!"
Me: "It won't. There is less than a 1 in over 50,000,000 chance of there being a world-destroying black hole. Anyway, a black hole wouldn't blow up the world, it would just suck it in."
Other Guy (trying to reassure Guy #1): "Yeah, we'd fine even if there was a black hole. It would be really small, so it would probably get closed before it reached us."

Not only is a black hole closing an impossibility (as it is not even a hole), but if Switzerland was swallowed up there would be the small matter of a gaping hole in the Earth. That would make us be the very opposite of fine.

Where are you getting that number?
