Recently, I saw a thread asking what my favorite 3 games were and I couldn't whittle the list down. So I ask you: what are all of your favorite games & bonus points if the list is longer than 10 items & even more bonus points if you sort them by genre or year or something.

Let's get this circus rollin:

Deus Ex (/w HDTP and other graphics improving mods)
Vampire: the Masquerade - Bloodlines (/w the unofficial patch)
Mass Effect (and not ME2)
All Valve games (even Richochet)
All Ratchet & Clank games (even Deadlocked, but not the PSP ones haven't played them)
Metal Arms: Glitch in the System
Crackdown
Saints Row 2
GTA: San Andreas
Mirror's Edge
Quake 1-3 (or should I say I, II, III)
Battlefield 2 v1.21 (they've since patched the fun out of the game)
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Starfox 64
Goldeneye
Mortal Kombat Trilogy
Monkey Island 1-3 (Secret, Revenge, Curse)
Grim Fandango
Space Quest 3-6
Ringworld (1, Revenge, Return)
Halo:CE (on PC, I much prefer mouse&keyboard for FPSs)

and I'll probably add more as I think about it.

have yet to play Planescape Torment or Fallout 2, I suspect at least on of them will make the list.

Well this was a disappointment. I guess I learnt that I'm one of very few people able to remember all the games I loved, and that other people like the task of choosing a small number of favorites.

EDIT: forget what I said here; the thread just took a little longer to get rolling than I expected.

This is probably my best guess at the order:

2. Final Fantasy IX
3. Final Fantasy VII
4. Final Fantasy X
5. Mass Effect 2
6. Mass Effect
7. The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

12. World of Warcraft
13. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
14. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

There should probably be a couple of original Xbox games in there but those are upstairs, I can't be bothered to go there to remind myself.

And now, in no particular order, I present my favorite games ever, complete with the reasoning behind my choices.

I like this one not just for its humor, but also how it takes the colorful and varied Mario universe and makes it into an RPG that is complex enough to have some strategic choices to make, but simple enough that I don't get bogged down comparing numbers.
I'm afraid that it might just be becuase this one is new, but I'd say Gen V is the best generation so far. I like most of the designs, they really streamlined combat, and it's got the best story of any Pokemon game thus far. Not only does Pokemon in general fit well with my philosophy of having total control over inferior beings, it also sparks the collector in me. Each pokemon is like a glittering jewel in my collection; a jewel with super powers!
Bethesda really makes the best sandbox games. They always have the least constraints on where you must go and the most content not directly related to the main plot. The Elder Scrolls series is also great for its unique take on the fantasy setting. Somewhat like Middle-Earth meats Roman Empire, there's nothing quite like Tamriel, and artists everywhere could take a lesson from this series. Also, I liked Morrowind more than Oblivion chiefly because of the greater variety of weapons. I want my spear back, damnit.
It's a shame this is such a niche game. Granted, it's got a water-thin story in every entry I've played, but it sure makes up for it. Its visual design and animations are both outstanding; the monsters move and feel like real animals, and inspire actual awe and dread in their movements. The weapons, though obviously oversized, move like big, heavy objects fit for slaying dragons. The difficulty is just right, too. After what seems an eternity of frantic dodging, striking, and trap-laying, nothing is quite as satisfying as finally seeing the monster go down.
What can I say? Suda Goichi is a creative genious. If you don't know what I mean, you've clearly never played the games, and for that I pity you.
This game has the absolute BEST visual design in the entire medium, or at least the best I've seen. It's also got an outstanding story with a valuable lesson, the sort of story that paces itself well and reveals information like pieces of a puzzle to be assembled. Not to mention that the first person brawler idea is not only unique, it is also very successful and thrillingly visceral.
This game's story is presented much like Zeno Clash's, "some assembly required," and while it's a bit more complex it's still very satisfying. The visual design is great here, too, and it makes for breathtakingly epic boss fights against building-sized monsters. Though it's story is well paced and presented, it's not quite as meaningful, but it makes up for that by having a likeable female protagonist. I have difficulty relating to people, especially women, but I understand Bayonetta. She goes through the whole game with a look that says, "I look forward to killing you in an extremely painful and humiliating manner," and you know, that really speaks to me.

I'm going to think back about the games I wasted the most time on.

Blaster Master
Super Mario 3
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Super Mario World
Zelda: Link to the Past
Earthworm Jim
Donkey Kong Country
Sonic the Hedgehog
Super Mario 64
Final Fantasy VII
Parasite Eve
Tekken 3
Medieval

And I'm going to stop this flashback there. I loved those games. And my list of favorite games is just too long. Maybe I might exclude a couple there stylistically or because of the story, but c'mon... everyone says they hate Vanilla Ice and the Macarena, so how did they become number one hits?
