Your Childhood Comfort Object

For some it is a blanket. Others, a stuffed animal. Others yet, an action figure. Perhaps a basketball. We all had some sort of object that we turned to for comfort from the dark and the monsters when we were afraid or had had a bad dream.

Here, i propose we discuss this in a very broad manner. If the discussion follows any direction, from a parenting aspect, to a psychological point, to a simply nostalgic thread discussing our beloved and former comforters.

To begin, I'll tell of mine. Shortly before I was born, my parents bought a dog. She was a very energetic and loyal dog, of the beagle breed. She was pure-bred, raised on a farm. Her name was Rosie. From my earliest memories I can remember her always being a warm and soft body. She was always available for affection, and reciprocated wholeheartedly. It was the purest form of love I know, that between a boy and his dog. Rosie past away over 5 years now, and we have two new dogs. In them, I can find the same reassurance, the same love.

My childhood comfort "object" was my first best friend: my ever-loving dog. Now, facing 4 years of university, what i regret leaving behind the most.. Is not my family, not my accumulated items, not my friends, but my dogs.

I formed a strong bond those years ago. What was yours? Does it remain today?

My Super Nintendo. God, that thing has seen me through some tough times.

Whenever I get depressed, I just pop in Super Mario World, or FF6, or whatever and play for hours.

I had a stuffed Carebear Cousin penguin ever since I was a little kid. My dog got to it when I was eight or so and tore him up a bit, but my mom patched him up right away. From the age of four to, well, damn near eighteen I slept with him either by my side or under my pillow. It was nice to be reminded of a simpler time when things got hard.

I recently gave him to my girlfriend so she would always have something of mine close to her when I couldn't be there. She loves him about as much as I did, so I know he's in good hands.

A stuffed Moose that I named Reindeery. Probably because I was born around Christmas and so it sounds nicer, he still sits of my desk right now and he has always been in my room all my life.

a blanket, never a specific blanket but i could never fall asleep with out a blanket even in the summer sheets couldn't give the same feel as a reassuring blanket.

I loved my SNES until my mother heartlessly gave it away to the Boys & Girls Club... All I can hope for now is that it has served as a reliable launchpad into the fantastic and extravagant world of video games for many kids. It did so successfully for me.

I had(have) a Teddy which I got as my first ever christmas present.
To comfort me when I was sad I would have my teddy clenched close to my chest and my cat would always find me and sit next to me :)

I had two "comfort objects," as the OP called them. One, my blanket (ever so creatively named Blankie) which I carried around everywhere. The other, my stuffed animal dog, Sparky. They're both still with me, in my college apartment- though admittedly my blanket is extremely worse for the wear.

After thinking way too much about it I remembered what I would do whenever I was depressed, scared or angry I would just wait for the night climb to the roof and stare at the moon all night until the sunrise, I don't know why but the moon relaxes me, I remember that one night I fought with my brother (I don't remember why) and I went out and stayed outside in the roof staring at the moon all night while it was raining, I also have always had trouble sleeping unless I looked at the moon, it's just so mesmerizing.
EDIT: Thank you for making me remember how much I like staring at the moon, hadn't done it in a while, it looks so romantic over the sea.

I suppose I had multiple ones, but I had two main stays. I had a barbie doll who I would always play with above the others and she always made me happy. Besides her, and this will sound dumb, I had this old bright red jewelry box that I would place all my little knick knacks in. In fact I still have it to this day. It just makes me feel....safe having it near by.

In a lot of ways my kitty. I know it sounds like crazy cat lady talk, but she always seemed to know when I was upset and would clown around and be affectionate to cheer me up. When I cried I would often talk to her and hug her.

I also had a stuffed Elephant that I cuddled when I was lonely. I still have it around my apartment now, actually.

I've had a certain baby doll since I was born that was given to me. When I was younger, I couldn't go to sleep without it and if she was lost, I'd walk around the house calling for her until my parents found her and gave her back to me. xD

I still have her but my mom took her away and put her in my memories box she keeps for me. Now, I have to use my other stuffed animals. Which include an elephant, a bunny, a teddy bear and a clown fish.

I'm 19 years old and I'm not afraid to say that I still sleep with stuffed animals. xD

I had a collection of stuffed lambs. I loved them all, but I dragged the black one everywhere with me, talked to him, and demanded my mom treat him like a real best friend. XD I would've kept him, but he fell apart when I was about 15. :(
