I just love RTSs in general, purly because I have a natural ability and aptitude for tactics and strategy. I always use realistic tactics in any game I play, and love playing wargames, so the idea of controlling a whole army and controlling the strategy and tactics of a whole war campaign really appeals to me (also why I love Rome: Total War so much).
Right now, I'm in the middle of an R:TW campaign as the Brutii, ready to attack Rome but not planning to yet. Currently facing a tough slog on two fronts, one war aganst the five remaining Pontian cities (and one Macedonian outpost), and another against Egypt having taken all their cities east of the Dead Sea (my empire pretty much expands across all of southern Italy, Greece, and modern-day Turkey, and heading into what was once Pontian territory south of the Carthiginian Mountains). Pretty vrutal stuff, but I'm planning to take control of both factions' remaining territories, and maintain a truce with Scythia and our borders north of the Carthiginians. If I can do that, I can make a move against the Julii Romans by attacking their North Africa provinces, and take control before they know what's hit them. Coupled with a defence of my Italian cities, I can set up a blockade and launch a naval assault on them in Sicily and move north. If I can keep my borders secure, it shouldn't take long to wipe them out, capture Rome, and move against the Scipii in northern Italy...
