It doesn't have to be the hardest Boss Fight, just the one that is most memorable to you personally.

I'd like to say that my favorite boss fight for its innovation and general wtf-factor has to be Psycho-Mantis. I know I might be picking the easy one (and simultaneously ninja-ing quite a few of you) but MGS's resident telepathic nutjob was one of the most unique fight's I'd ever encountered. Maybe even the first 4th wall breaking fight... With all the video output changes, the controller movement (which was really neat at the time) and the "secret" to beating him. A well scripted boss encounter that I'll take with me to the end of my days... or at least until senility or Alzheimer's claims it.

Honorable mentions:
The End - MGS3
Kefka - FF6 (For being such a persistant ASS)

It would have to be the chapter 7 boss in Bayonetta.

Mainly because it was pretty crazy and everything that happened before and after the fight was just balls to the wall nuts and I laughed the whole time. I mean, the whole thing was ridiculous. I could name a bunch of other boss fights from that game too that are pretty memorable and awesome, and not to mention crazy, but that one was my favorite.

Another one would have to be the Sisters of Fate in GOW2. That one was super fun to do, and even though it was really involved in how it was set up it was still fun and challenging to do. It was a great set piece of a boss battle.

I'm just gonna pick a recent one and say Senator Armstrong from Metal Gear Rising. That boss fight was amazingly epic and the music made it even better.

And though not my favourite, a definitely memorable one was Sephiroth from the first Kingdom Hearts (and only the first). Memorable because I never could defeat the fucker

I'd say probably the first battle with Letho in Witcher 2. It's a very intense little fight that is believably tough since Geralt is actually fighting an enemy that stands a chance - another Witcher who can match him move for move. The only other character in the entire book/game saga that comes close to this is a certain bounty hunter in the books. Other than that, Geralt rarely encounters any human enemy that is a challenge to him in single combat. It's an interesting scenario, and the difficulty Geralt faces comes into the player as well, since he's a tough son of a ***** to defeat the first time. It's a short, deadly intense battle with an equally skilled opponent (in game terms, he's a higher level with more abilities, but canonically, they're evenly matched) that doesn't have any tedious "how do I beat him" moments or silly required puzzle solving, but just a combination of character ability and player skill. I really enjoy that fight.

I don't know if he's my favourite, but the Mendez fight in Resident Evil 4 always fills me with delightful dread. And I'm talking about the initial run, not New Game+.

You only have your handgun, shotgun, and rifle, none of which are particularly strong or effective at that point. And then you get locked in a small space with a 12-foot tall monster man. *shudder* It's a rare feat for a game to give me dark butterflies in my stomach.

Cynthia in Black/White and Black 2/White 2. You know she's tough, she's got a full team of pokemon and her battle theme is just awesome to fight to.

And if you're not careful, her Garchomp will murder you. Horrifically.

After a lot of careful consideration, I think I'm going to go with Du'ink from Legend of Mana. He's not anything special, just a giant ape with a scythe hammer thing that you fight in a cave. Not even as cool looking or as interesting to the quest as the similar Du'mere you fight later...

But he stands out to me because he was the first boss I ever encountered in that game. The first real battle in a game that at the time I couldn't stand, couldn't figure out what to do, but had no idea it would eventually become my favorite video game of all time.

Also...the first time I ever got to hear Pain the Universe, the greatest boss music of all time...

The first fight against Reflux in Rayman 3.
This is pretty much the only boss I ever replayed entire levels for. The music was pretty much one of the best tracks I ever heard.

Another honorable mention has to go to president Panay in Just Cause 2. It occurs to me that I will never use a Hispanic sociopathic James Bond to fight a really strong midget while riding on five nukes ever again. It makes me weep.

Awww... it's baby bowser, he's so cute, this boss battle's gonna be a piece of

As a little kid playing through Yoshi's Island for the first time, this boss battle made me lose my shit and then some.

As far as I'm concerned this is where the Mario series peaked.

Let see-

Henry from No More Heroes
Alastor and Another Joe from Viewtiful Joe
That ice bounty hunter in Metroid Prime 3
Those four had killer theme songs and killer move (like Henry instant kill move and Alastor Air Raid and Round Trip)! Yeah I tend to liked boss fight that is one on one and similar sizes compared to the protaganist.

Lastly that huge robot in Metroid Prime 2 since in that fight it take brain to killed it as oppose to some how it with more firepower!

Don't ask me why- but the 3 bullies in the 'Bully the Bullies' stage of Mario 64. They're barely even bosses, but I loved getting to the platform and pretending I was in a Kung Fu movie or something, beating them up with slow, deliberate moves.

Or you can do it in like... 30 seconds like this:

But I liked to just take my time- time after time.

Pretty much any of the colossi from Shadow of the Colossus.

Particularly 4,5,10,13,15, and 16.

The sense of scale, the tension from hanging onto a colossi doing barrel rolls from hundreds of feet in the air, the beautiful music, this fight and all the others are just damned amazing, and few games for me have reached their level of awesomeness.

I'll swallow your soul!

Why? Great music, great graphics, an actually challenging battle in a (great) game where magic is severely overpowered, he's a villain who has been plaguing you since about 1/4 of the way through your quest all the way to the end, and the person in your party whom he has hurt the most is the one with his weakness, Lucent Beam/Light Saber.

The most memorable to me is in Legend of Zelda OoT, the shadow temple's drummer boss. I remember I didn't even care about killing him, I just kept playing different songs on the ocarina while he rocked the drums.

As for something that actually resembles a boss fight, Ornstein and Smough in Dark Souls. I somehow managed to beat them first try, but I was still freaking out running in circles while they chased me most of the time. Good times.

There was something awesome about running into her in the post game like that. Plus, when I first played Black I had not played the gen 4 games so she really surprised me.

The Lich King Heroic in WoW: WotLK was pretty fantastic. Required co-ordination of multiple people, full attention at all times, had many moments which can and definitely WOULD kill the whole raid in seconds and plus... it's the freaking Lich King, it's climatic for everything that has happened in WotLK and Warcraft 3.

That ending though was pretty shit.

Probably Ornstein and Smough.

Aka Pikachu and Snorlax, Aka biggie and smalls.

Runner up is Artorias.

Honestly, they were such a change, and such a fun boss fight. I didn't expect what I got when I arrived at this boss, but I was happy to fight it.

Gwyn.
Fought in the very heart of that great furnace from which hope and light was born. Through his sacrifice.
A beautiful, simple piano piece plays in the background.
He's lightning fast and hits like the grandfather of all trucks even through a full shield block.
But he is not the lord of sunlight anymore: all that is left after a thousand years of sacrifice is a charred husk.
And he is snapped in half like a twig and swept aside. The chosen undead are on a crusade, and neither force nor pity will stop them.
