So looking over my steam library I came to the realization that most of my games have some form of shooting in them whether FPS, 3rd person action, twin stick/arcade shooters, lots of guns, killing and what have you.

I'm wanting to see if i can get a good list of games that don't involve guns or killing.

Show me what you got!

Catherine. There're no guns and you don't have to kill anyone. At least, as far as the plot is concerned. If anything you're encouraged to save people.

Portal. You shoot portals, not bullets. And you can't kill what's not alive (turrets).

I actually really like The Void, although throwing life-paint at giant Russian headless daemons so fairies do topless go-go dances maybe qualifies as shooting...

Maybe one of the Amnesia games then?

I have immense love for Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, the only main instalment to the series which doesn't give you a gun in some fashion. Sure, the Wii controls make combating and fleeing from monsters very awkward, but the game shines in most aspects.

I'm pretty sure they don't break (or whatever their equivalent of death is) either, so long as you don't bring them in to furnaces or the gateways.

Uhmmmmm No guns or killing. Uhhhh OH! New King's Quest! I mean... there's a bow but you don't use it to kill anything and it doesn't even get added to your inventory. And there's lots of ways to die but MOST of the time it's on accident.

Okay okay I'll stop trying to incorporate King's Quest 2015 into everything. OH Animal Crossing! I mean, the most violent thing to happen in that is you getting stung by bees. No killing, no violence - except maybe fishing if you're really grasping at straws.

Also Limbo. And I'm seconding Catherine.

Does it count if you can shoot someone but only in one maybe 2[footnote]maybe it was 3, 4 if you count the bottles[/footnote] scenes and it's completely optional? Because I was thinking maybe Life is Strange counts.

Other than that, To the Moon and most of those games, actually lots of adventure games have no shooting, like I don't think you can shoot anyone in Broken Sword and I'm pretty sure you don't kill anyone, then there's arcady stuff like Marble Madness, lots of puzzle games, Sims, SimCity, actually a lot of simulation games, most sports games, too many racing games...

Yeah, there are actually a LOT of games that are not focused on violence, obviously though they are for the most part not action games but a lot of them are pretty mainstream.

Half-way around there I forgot I was supposed to mention games I liked so um... Well The Sims are fantastic games and I do love Marble Madness, I do recommend Broken Sword because it's fantastic, as for racing games, actually I like the most action packed ones but if you're willing to ignore tackling opponents until they die, F-Zero is perfect, that would be F-Zero x and GX, the Mode 7 ones are OK but I could never really get into them.

Besides that I really like Tennis games like Top Spin and Mario Tennis on the GBA, Poker Night at the inventory is a fantastic poker game too...

I feel like I'm forgetting something....

It was Harvest Moon, I absolutely loved the first one and Harvest Moon 64, those games are fantastic.

I also forgot Puzzle Agent, sure he has a gun but you don't shoot it, he shoots it but he doesn't kill anyone, that game is fantastic, telltale's magnum opus as far as I'm concerned.[footnote]Eat your heart out Walking Dead.[/footnote]

Stein;s Gate for the PSVita. It's mainly a visual novel and the player has few interactions with it, but it's a masterfully told story and does the time travel motif very, VERY well; if not as good as Chrono Trigger, then better than it.

Danganronpa and Danganronpa 2 are also good entries for this. Though murder does occur, you're tasked with solving the puzzle of who did it.

Lastly, the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney series. One of the only games that come to mind where you play as a defense attorney trying to prove your clients' innocence. Professor Layton games also get a mention here, as does the game that features both Professor Layton and Phoenix Wright.

Race The Sun... The title basically explains the whole plot because that's basically all you do...

Other than that, there's HuniePop... *giggity*

Ha, man, The Void, that was an interesting game.

For me, there are two main pleasures in terms of gameplay: shooting and driving. Both (in the game world) a simple, skill-based acts that connect you in a concrete way with the game at hand. So, for me driving games are the most prevalent example of games that don't involve guns or killing. Or... maybe 2D fighters? I'm sure it's not the sort of thing you're thinking of, but most 2D fighters don't have guns, and no one dies... despite being sliced fifty times with a giant sword, in the case of something like Soul Calibur :p

But I suspect what you're really asking about particular examples of games that consciously eschew guns and violence, as opposed to obvious choices likes sports games or city building sims etc. Most of the best examples have already been mentioned, I guess.

Would Psychonauts count? I mean on the one hand you make countless censors go all 'splody. On the other hand, those are nothing more than anthropomorphized aspects of peoples' psyches and your actions within their minds ultimately ends up being a kind of super therapy.

Most of my games count. The Myst series, Dreamfall, Big Pharma, anything Zachtronics makes, Escape Goat, various economic sims... I'm not a violent person.

No shooting isn't very descriptive. I can think of about a hundred games off the top of my head, from awesome to terrible, that fits that description.

What kind of games are you interested in? Genre? Subject Matter? Type of gameplay?

Yeah I was thinking of getting that version. It'd be quite interesting seeing how it plays given how the Wii controls play such a big part in the gameplay.

I need to play Origins eventually and I lack a PSP so that will be the perfect time to get it.
