So I don't always buy guides for games, but occasionally the mood strikes me. Lately I bought a guide for Skyward Sword, (published by Prima), and I found myself a bit disappointed. It was lazy in some parts, telling me to solve a puzzle, but not how, and plain missing vital information in others. For example, (putting this in spoiler tags for discretion)
It feels like lately guides aren't as good as they once were. I had an Ocarina of Time guide published by Versus. It was completely accurate, mistake free, and was actually hilarious, (The writers had snuck in jokes about eating Epona and Darunias dance that still crack me up.) It even had a section called "Things we thought were cool secrets, but actually weren't." I loved that guide, and I wish I could find more like it. I think Versus must have gone under, I never found another of their guides.
So what about you guys? Do you have a favorite guide publisher? Or just a gripe to share?
After finishing an incredibly frustrating fight with Demise, I looked on Youtube to see how others had fared. Little did I know that there was a very useful "Skyward Strike" like move you could use to make the fight incredibly easy. This was clearly how the game intended you to win the fight, yet this information was nowhere in the guide.
