I myself don't listen to any, but they sound like a fun thing to listen to while playing non-story heavy games. So, Escapists, what are your favorites, and why?

I really like Retro Crew and Rad Crew, about retro gaming and gaming respectively.
They also do Rad Crew Neon, which is about pop culture.
It's pretty good, and very funny.

It's all in Norwegian though.
But if you speak Norwegian I urge you to check them out.

Oh boy!

http://mysteriousuniverse.org/

I totally recommend Mysterious Universe. Every week there is a free 1 1/2 to 2 hour podcast covering the weeks paranormal, supernatural and cryptozoological news. Hosted by Benjamin Grundy and Aaron Wright, usually, this free podcast is followed up with Premium member content for a paid subscription, called a Plus Membership. I find they push the Plus thing a bit hard in the free podcast, but at the same time the content at MU is often worth it if you like fantastic conspiracies, UFO sightings, haunted house anecdotes, mythology, or bigfoot debunkings (don't get fooled by the subject matter, Ben and Aaron are not without their skepticisms!)

EDIT: Oh, I didn't consider that this might be a thread for Podcasts about games and gaming... sorry!

It's not necessarily only about gaming, so no worries :)

I really like the Idle Thumbs podcast, good discussions, likable members. some humor. Though they do occasionally start making some (probably inside) jokes that go over my head completely and I'm lost for 5 minutes, but whatever. It's also interesting because they are a mix of game developers and journalists (Chris Remo has even been both at points in his career) which gives you a different insight into certain aspects of games.

I also enjoy Three Moves Ahead, which is hosted on the Idle Thumbs site although not directly connected content-wise, and is focused on strategy of all kinds, be it turn-based, grand strategy, wargaming etc. and they KNOW their shit, more so than I've seen on any gaming site to be honest. I'm personally not into some of the really complex wargames they talk about, especially the tabletop variety, and I know I'm never gonna play them, but listening to their thoughts on them can still be interesting as a way to increase my general knowledge of the genre. Of course, these games tend to be deeply rooted to their historical contexts, and don't worry, these guys are major history nerds and know all about these conflicts before they've played the game, which is cool, because they can compare the way battles played out in reality, and how they tend to play out in the game, and explain how realistic the simulation is, and which aspects of combat the game has decided to simulate at all, and to what purpose. So if you enjoy strategy and history, this is the podcast for you. My favorite episodes are usually the ones on the grand-strategy games by Paradox like Crusader Kings II and Europa Universalis IV.

The Cracked podcast CAN be cool, but sometimes they start talking out of their asses so hard it makes my head hurt. I mean, I know Cracked isn't a serious internet magazine or source of information, but when they talk about these broad issues of society, politics and economics, it's obvious that they just don't really know all that much about it. Of course, this doesn't matter when they talk about something out of pop culture, which is what I prefer. It's simple enough that they won't be making gross errors, and even if they do, any misinformation isn't really important anyway.

If you're a PC Gamer, the PC Gamer podcast was actually pretty good, but now they only release an episode once in a blue moon instead of weekly, so it hardly seems worth bothering at this point.

And of there are a ton of The Escapist's very own podcasts to choose from, though I honestly wasn't impressed by their new Science or Movie podcasts. The tabletop one isn't bad though. Bolding also seems to know his way around strategy, so that's good.

Wow... I think I've got about 40 podcasts I am subscribed to, but I'll cut it down to a few for each interest.

Firstly, if you like video games, there is the Escapist (which isn't as good as it was, but still solid), Co-Optional with Totalbiscuit, Bombing the AM with Scoops and the Wolf which is a coffee and ***** podcast.

Are you into Warhammer 40,000? I hope you're listening to 40k Radio (which has dropped it's update schedule hugely), Preferred Enemies and (this one gets juvenile in a fun way) Life After the Cover Save.

If you're into roleplaying, I'd suggest looking up the big 3; Fear the Boot, Kicked in the Dicebags and the Established Facts. These are the guys who tend to run it all and be on top of the game.

Maybe you prefer general nerdy, round-table conversation? Under Discussion, Ice-T's Final Level and Rooster Teeth have good updating schedules, cover a range of topics and are fun to listen to.

If you're a little more intellectual, TED Talks have podcasts and I also listen to the China History Podcast.

Consider me subbed and listening now. Thanks.

My main one nowadays is GT Time on Gametrailers. Being on Gametrailers it's obviously about games, usually the big stories of the week. It used to be Invisible Walls, but now it was changed to have a set group of four who happen to be my favorite guys on the site with the occasional substitute. It's perfect for doing workouts to, and it goes for about 40 minutes to an hour.

I used to listen to the Roosterteeth podcast, but at one point I missed a whole bunch and I didn't feel like continuing. I love the main guys over at RT, but I have a sneaking suspicion that I would have to get acquainted with the newer cast members.

Welcome to Night Vale is really the only one I listen to on a regular basis. I wait a month or so to let the episodes build up, then load them into EuroTruck Simulator 2 and just play that mindless game while listening.

As a Super Best Friends fan, the Superbestfriendcast.

May not be the most well-informed, or the most technical (but I don't like in-depth criticism anyway); just two hours of things from some likeable chucklefucks who I've become very much attached to.

The Dismal Jesters, hands down. Pity it had kind of a short run (29 episodes, plus a movie-commentary episode for 'The Stuff'), but what we have is really good and infinitely relistenable. It's our own Jim Sterling, and his friends Jonathan Holmes and Conrad Zimmerman. It's strange and funny, and having more Jim in your life never hurt anybody. They basically just have conversations about various things for 1-2 hours, including pitching movie ideas, coming up with things Jonathan should do, and writing sponsorship letters. This is also a continuation of something called Podtoid, but I haven't listened to any of it yet.

It would also be remiss of me not to mention Jim's new venture, Fistshark Marketing, starring him, Conrad, and Caitlin Cook. This one has more of a 'plot', since the three of them act as members of a marketing firm, and do group improv based around that (IE, trying to market a Siri clone that sends people to crime scenes, or the way they'll market an obvious Harry Potter knockoff). The first episode's a little rough, but they seem to be hitting their stride now.

Yahtzee also had a podcast briefly, called The Show and Tell podcast, with his friend Gabriel, but they had like, 3 or 4 episodes. The two of them now do a Lets-Play-Podcast-hybrid called Let's Drown Out, where one of them plays a boring game for about an hour, and the two of them comment over it. You can just play the audio and ignore the video if you so choose, though, but they usually play interesting things.

Gaming podcast, I am mostly covered with the giant bombcast.

For podcasts in general, I recommend you to check on hardcore history. It doesn't update so often, but it counters it by being longer than most, and the content is really good.

It's a bit of a nothing podcast but, if you like CGPGrey and or Brady (Numberphile) it's great to hear them talk more or less candidly.

My Brother My Brother and Me. It's an hour long, give or take ten minutes, comedy advice-cast where half of the questions are submitted by listeners and the other half are culled from the dark depths of yahoo answers. The show is subject to a lot of tangents but they have a good banter so it does matter much. A word of warning though they are infrequently SFW, I think they only do one certified clean show a year around Christmas.

Idle thumbs, previously mentioned ... though one of the people on the show, REALLY likes to get his EXACT point across, which usually takes some time.

Bombcast, giant bomb production. I especially like this one 'cos it's like 2+ hours long, so you don't need to find a new one all the time and it allows them to really get into stuff.

The crate and crowbar, I have just started listening to it and it's pretty good.

Vidjagame apocalypse, again, I have only just started listening to it and again, it's pretty good.

The last two both have decent people, they allow each other to talk and one person doesn't over ride the others, good humour yadda yadda.

Also the two roosterteeth podcast, the patch and well ... the podcast. Only problem with them is Gus, mother fucker keeps a tight schedule! I'd love the patch to be 2+ hours, the podcast could be with being a little longer but he always cuts it short. He also reads the adverts, jesus that shit is annoying! "here, lemme just read this out ... I just want to remind everyone that this week podcast is sponsored by hulu plus/dollar shave club ....".

(dollar shave club are the worst, the advert is so fucking American and uses stupid words, like "shlepping")

Anyway, they are all gaming podcasts.

Sorry escapist, every time I listen there is a mouth breather and all I can hear is Darth Vadar ... it really pisses me off!

"Revolutions". http://www.revolutionspodcast.com/

It's a historical series on the great political revolutions. It started with the English civil war and the American revolution and it's now on episode 4 of the French revolution. It's very well done.

It's by Mike Duncan, who did one of the best historical podcast series that I ever listened to, The History of Rome ( http://thehistoryofrome.typepad.com/ ). It's the whole history of Rome from the founding of the city to the exile of the last western Roman Emperor, in 179 awesome episodes. I couldn't recommend it more.

I can also recommend 12 Byzantine Rulers: http://12byzantinerulers.com/ and Norman Centuries: http://normancenturies.com/ by Lars Brownsworth.

There is also the excellent In Our Time: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006qykl .

On subjects unrelated to history, I also listen to Hello Internet (two guys talking sort of podcast, http://www.hellointernet.fm/ ) and Welcome to Night Vale (surreal and hard to describe, it's like your friendly local radio station set in the Twilight Zone, http://commonplacebooks.com/ ).

The one's I listen to the most are the Skeptics guide to the universe. There alright, don't agree with everything they say though. And "You are not so Smart." I like that one it's basically about how were so not rational people. Oh and the co optional podcast but that's just funny.
