What is it?

I just finished Mass Effect 2 and was feeling a little empty inside (drained after the epic adventure that is Bioware's latest videogame) when I opened up my old CRPG folder on the computer, in search of something to restore that RPG buzz. Thing is, I've already played through most of them, re-played many of them. Fallout 1,2,3, System Shock, Deus Ex, S.T.A.L.K.E.R, Vampire: The Masquerade. I was just wondering, what are your guys' favorite Sci-Fi roleplaying games?
Maybe you'll have something I haven't played before.

Sci-Fi RPGS? Well, let's see:

Knights of the Old Republic
Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords
Mass Effect
(I assume you've played this though, if you've played ME2)
Fallout series

I have a feel that there are more that I've played, but they slip my mind for the moment.

I never played KoTOR 2... Worth playing? I liked 1, but I heard that 2 is worse.
It's certainly not as good as the original and the ending is...well, not present, but I'd still say it's worth playing if you were a fan of the first one.

Alpha Centauri is my favourite Science Fiction game. I am still waiting for an RPG that has something that I think of as being a good Science Fiction setting or story. RPGs always seem to dilute it with too much fantasy and soap opera for my taste.

In terms of being a game that sort of lives up to science fiction I thought that Robinson's Requiem was pretty impressive but it's hard to call it a good game. BattleTech: The Crescent Hawk's Inception is good as a pulp Sci-Fi adventure RPG. System Shock 2 and Deus Ex are pretty good but the RPG elements are very light and they have cyberpunk tendencies and in my mind cyberpunk is second rate Science Fiction. It would be too much for me to call a cyberpunk or fantasy themed game the "best" Science Fiction.

I would say Mass Effect if it was on the Trey. (HINT BIOWARE, HINT) but right now I have to say: Star Ocean: Till the end of time

You ask this right after Mass Effect 2 comes out? Well, here it is: Mass Effect 2. One of the best games I have ever played in my life, let alone best sci-fi RPG. It was a truly amazing sci-fi epic.

I've already played a lot of the games mentioned thus far, all no-doubt great Science-Fiction games. But I have not heard of Anachronox before. Is it a PC game?

Vampire isnt sci-fi.

Megatravellers my favourite sf rpg
It is if the Vampires are in SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE.

The horrible yet sexually intriguing movie "Lifeforce" comes to mind.

Uhm, I guess mine would be KOTOR since its the only space RPG that I think I've ever played unless you count the Custom Warcraft 3 games based upon Starcraft characters.

Deus Ex is more Cyberpunk in my books. Mass Effect has simply an amazing universe so it gets my vote. But KOTOR is still the best Star Wars game ever. (X-Wing and TIE Fighter are right behind it).
