It can be instrumental but what is your favorite song that was made for a video game? (I still haven't decided on mine).

Hard to get better than NieR in the soundtrack department.

Even though as a gaming property they're not very good, the Silent Hill games have fantastic soundtracks.

Now it may not count 'cause its not original to the game, but Bioshock had some great use of old Rat Pack jazz songs.

Kind of off-topic, but I don't think I've ever heard the original in any game, despite it being fairly popular.

A shame too, it's considerably more moody than the Darrin cover.

I don't know if it's my favourite, but Pricilla's song in The Witcher 3 is quite good. That whole scene in general has this relaxed, dreamy atmosphere to it.

Also, Ico.

Right now it's Origa's em-pyei-n vari-fen jang from Ar Nosurge, but I have another favourite every week or so. It really depends on my mood.

I can't stand the game on the 3DS (2.8 here I come!), but the opening is beautiful. I love the piece and the video.

I don't usually pay attention to music in games, but two that I remember are The Poet and the Muse from Alan Wake and Oh the Joy from Year Walk (though I'm not sure if it was written for the game).

I was going to put Cleric Beast from Bloodborne in here but I want to limit myself to one video.
So more recently, "New Devon" from Uncharted 4 is one of the most heroic and epic action movie songs I've heard in a while.

I've separated the music in video games into many categories because I love the diversity it brings.

Personally overall Rhythm games have the best music. It's just a natural advantage the genre has.

Same with video game openings and endings that can focus specifically on a song and create the animation around it.

So getting those out of the way for actual in-game music I'd probably go with.

Town theme

Battle theme

This became a DLC battle theme for ToZ.

I'll exclude straight up instrumentals, since I genuinely don't think I could choose (maaaaaybe "Halo Reborn" from "Halo 3"??)

"Acceptance" is not something I'm incredibly fond of in general, but in all my playthroughs of "Shattered Memories" this tune never fails to make me feel sympathy for X and it works so well with any of the endings which are at best bittersweet and at worst tragic for X.

Ozar Midrashim from Soul Reaver:

You're Not Alone from Final Fantasy IX:

Or the entire damn soundtrack from Metal Gear Rising:

I'm actually surprised I'm the first person to mention this one. M4 Part II by Faunts

I finished Mass Effect, went to the toilet because I'd been holding it in for hours, and when I came out this was playing. It blew me away.

"Song"? *sighs* Fine... I'll just stick with one this time...
Other than that, I SO tempted to posting my favorite song from both Undertale and Pony Island, but SPOILERS!
