If had to pick one it would be kreia from Kotor 2. She is not likable character and on top of that she is manipulative *****. yet she is one of best written character I ever seen in a game. In kotor 2 I always look forwards to having conversions with her due the things she says to being very interesting.
talking about kotor 2 makes me want to play it again.

Honorable mentions would include
Clem form the walking dead season 1- she is written in such a way that I actually care about her. I have yet to play season 2.

Sheogorath from shivering isles]- there are no complex reasons for this. I simply like his as character. It is weird that a game from Bethesda has a character like this considering most of the time there writing is shit.

I have a hard time thinking of any one else off the top of my head.

One thing I like about Kreia is how hard it is to get her to like you. Everyone else wants you to be good or evil, I still don't know what she wants me to say. I guess logic and reason over any emotion.

I like Garrus from the Mass Effect series. His got that charm about him that I love in characters. He's a joker, he's a great shot, and he is just overall awesome. Love everything about him. He's almost always in my squad and I loved his banter in citadel.

Still probably Abe from Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee.

He's just such a likeable, innocent dude.

I recall at one point I blackmailed a robot and got it to secretly give to me a discount. the robot ran a store at the narshada docks; which was owned by a blind alien who knew bao dur in the past. Kreia actually Complimented me for doing that. Kreia doing this is so rare that I actually remember this small event with little reliance to the plot.

Stephen Heck and Raul Tejada. (I know it says "character", singular, but I'm indecisive.)

Heck because he's Heck. He likes fire.
Raul because he's awesome. I like his personality and backstory, plus despite him saying his eyes are going bad he's still a crack shot. I can't go to Black Mountain without picking him up and once he's with me I can't ever tell him to go away.

While he's not exactly a fully fledged character, I have to go with Strider Hiryu. There's just so much about his specific design and that of the world he inhabits that feels so iconic.

Other than Hiryu, I have to say Ryu from Street Fighter. His relatively simple story just resonates so completely with the entire genre of games he stars in that he just feels pretty much perfect. In fact, I almost find myself not liking the character as much when you start adding in the complexities they've added to his character later on.

Protagonist? Any silent protagonist where my 4th wall isn't broken by some idiotic statement falling out of my character that I would never say. Hence The Secret World > Star Wars: ToR. The only talking protagonist I ever did not despise were April Ryan (The Longest Journey) - Guybrush Threepwood (Monkey Island) and Kate Walker (Syberia)

As for supporting characters... Hmm. Too many to have a singular favourite.

Probably this funny-ass trio from The Secret World, the socially awkward principal Hayden Montag taking home the prize:

As of this moment my favorite is Bigby in the Wolf Among Us. Something about him just makes me super enjoy him and the way I play him. Good cop with a bit of a dark side that's always willing to fight if necessary.

Of all time, though, it's Baird from Gears of War. I adore that little blonde haired shit with all of my heart.

Morte from Planescape: Torment. An incredibly hilarious character with great dialogue, and the fact that he's a floating, talking skull obviously makes him much more interesting.

However, he knocks it out of the park because, at first glance, he just seems like he's there to be the goofy comic-relief sidekick, but you later discover exactly why he's following you around and why he sticks with you, and it's somehow both incredibly tragic and incredibly uplifting at the same time.

Was there ever any doubt?

Yep, Sonic the Hedgehog is without a doubt, my favorite video game character of all time. If I need to be specific, it's Classic Sonic. The classic Sonic the Hedgehog series was the whole reason I got into gaming and started viewing it as more than a simple childish pastime. His speed speaks for itself, as Chemical Plant Zone Act 2 demonstrates how Sonic is just too fast for the system to keep up with him, as well as his original two allies proving a new degree of game variety to an already repayable series.

What we need now is some damn HD remixes of the classic Sonic series.

Wouldn't you agree?

Metallica has such a draw for me that I'm still playing The Witch and the Hundred Knight after having exhausted any real source of replay value. There are no bonus objectives, other endings or secret weapons left. Just yet another turn to spend playing willing henchman... And listening to her excellent JP voice actress.

Seriously people!! This Krogan has more one-liners than a bad action movie and he's an awesome squadmate.

Close second is Mordin Solus. RIP good buddy.

This is tough.... I can't pick just one so in no particular order, here are my favourites:

Handsome Jack -made me laugh a lot and I genuinely was sad to kill him, even after everything he'd done.
Domingo (Shining Force) -a flying squid who has awesome freeze spells and ridiculously high defense. Enemies seem to flock to him because he's some kind of terrifying abomination. Unfortunately for them, they can barely scratch his glorious squidlike surface!
Mordin -He was the very model of a scientist Salarian.
The Kid (Bastion) -ya he doesn't say anything, but when I chose for him to save Zulf instead of taking the easy way out and smashing all the Uras, I've never experienced a more powerful moment in gaming. Yes it was my decision, but it was through The Kid. When the Uras stop attacking you, and just let you leave (out of respect or fear, maybe both), I couldn't help but feel that I'd done the right thing.

"You have to eat more meat!"

Sometimes it's hard to explain why I like Chie so much. I guess, what I really love about her is that she is the most notable and bright person of her group, despite the fact that in that group she is probably the most average person. I mean, her group consists of a young genius detective, a teen idol, the most popular girl in school, a guy from the parallel dimension who wears a bear costume, a Japanese delinquent and Yosuke (ok, Yosuke is also probably quite average in that sense). And yet, here she is with her love for kung-fu and meat, always smiling, always full of vigor and energy, always the one to say "We can do it!". This is what I love about her. She's just an incredibly bright person, a kind of person who will cheer everyone up just by her presence. And of course, as always, kudos to her voice actress Erin Fitzgerald, who managed to just nail Chie's personality in her performance. Her voice is loud, energetic and sometimes even a little a bit obnoxious. Just perfect.

The Prince from the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. I'd say the whole trilogy, but that would require including Warrior Within, and no matter how well The Two Thrones salvaged his personality, I can't forget that Warrior Within did ruin it at the time.

Anyways, The Prince's character is just incredibly lovable. His naivety merges well with the various situations he's put in from being responsible for his father's death to trying to come to terms with his love for Farah, and it offers truly fantastic inner monologues. The humorous parts constantly had me laughing, especially when he occasionally brings that monologue into his conversations with Farah; and the more serious monologuing really helped develop the part of his character that was maturing from the naive warrior who only cared about personal honor to the person who put greater value on life, family, and friends. His narration of the events also helped flesh out his character more. By the end, I couldn't help but appreciate pretty much every aspect of his character from his more humorous side to his more serious side.

Not to mention, his response to Farah when she asked him his name at the end was easily the best closing comment to any game I've played.
