What was your first game exclusive to a certain genre? Did it make you a fan?

The game that truly got me into RPGS would most likely be Chrono Trigger. It is the first rpg that i remember playing, and the game that introduce me to the Genre. But the game that caused me to marry it was The Shadow Hearts games.

The First Horror game I've ever played was a horrible one. Shadowman for the N64. Shared me shitless when I first played it, but now when I go back to it it has not aged well AT ALL.

I still really don't like the genre. but my first fighting game was Xena: Warrior princess, also for the N64. Like Shadowman as well, it still sucks. Good graphics for the time, though. But there are fighting games I like such as Tekken series, SSBB series, Blazblue.

RTS: Warcraft Orcs & Humans
RPG: Gothic or maybe Illusion of time on the SNES
Logic: Tetris and Dr. Mario SNES
MMORPG: WoW ^.^
Ego shooter: Counterstrike 1.4

I only play the good stuff. Though Zelda certainly would have been better than Illusion of Time, but hey, I was 4, how should I have known.
What actually surprises me right now, is that I know the story of Warcraft, though it was english, and I couldn't speak english back then.

FPS: Star Wars Battlefront
Platformer: Donkey Kong country
Hack N slash/JRPG's: Kingdom Hearts series
RPG's: Fallout 3

I still don't like JRPG's, and I was pretty late to the party on western RPG's.

FPS: Half Life, made me feel awfully sick. I am very proud of finishing that game, because I literally felt like throwing up. Stupid motion sickness. It was awesome though. Went on to play HL2 and Deus Ex and some of the more recent shooters.

MMORPG: World of Warcraft. Turned me off for life. Not going back to that.

RPG: Mass Effect. Well, the first proper one, since I wouldn't really count Diablo II as a typical RPG. Made me love the genre.

Adventure/point-and-click: The Longest Journey. The concept of adventure games never really appealed to me before this, but even though it was a real pain to click absolutely everything, it was pretty fun and I've played a few more adventure games since, and enjoyed them all.

SHOOTER: Duke Nukem 2,the freeway game, sadly, couldnt go past the 1st chapter

FPS: doom 2,I had doom 1 all the time on my computer, but doom.exe didnt work,I had to click the crack.exe, but I was too dumb to realize it back then

RPG: pffff, dono I used to play a lot of internet games, and most was rpg, don't know if that matters, the first I rpg I remember was a game with the main protagonist called Ron,dont remember the game though
the first rpg I truly remember was fallout 3

RTS: age of empires 2,aaah I used to play all day and all night as a kid,the only rts what I enjoyed

HORROR: brrrrr silent hill 1,only played untill that hallway part when those baby monsters attacked, didnt dare to go past it untillI was 14

THOSE SPACE-SHOOTER GAMES: raptor,by apogee,awesome game

STEALTH: thief :the dark project, gold edition, still have it,I started replaying it not long ago

MMORPG: take a wild guess, yeah it was world of warcraft, about 2 years ago,I never really liked it,it was full of nerds, playing day-night,having awesome equipment, but I couldnt play all the time and I was full of shitty equipment, and because of that, noone went raiding with me,everyone took wow so srsly, and noone played for fun,it turned me down and quit it after a few weeks

FPS: Wolfenstein 3D Achtung! Meine Lieben! I am really that old. It did make me a fan but FPS and I are sort of going through a trial separation at the moment.

Scrolling Shoot-em-up: Spyhunter, Peter Gunn theme and all.

Platformer: Impossible Mission, I was addicted to this... Destroy him, my robots.

Open world sandbox Game: Elite, but I fell in love with Pirates!

RPG: It was a D&D game on the Commodore 64, I think it may have been Pools of Radiance. I loved it, but I was already hooked on Pen and Paper RPGs.

RTS: Either Dune 2000 or Warcraft, I can't remember.

Turn Based Strategy: Defender of the Crown? I really fell in love with X-Com though.

Adventure Game: Aside from text adventures (The Hobbit, and Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy), my first was Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders. I played just about every SCUMM game after that.

FF8 got me into JRPGs. I'd never really looked at the genre before this game, or after it to be honest. I liked the fact that the characters weren't a cartoony bunch of clowns like in a lot of JRPGs and oh wow that story was epic!

JRPG: Pokemon, loved the fact that it was easy to play while going to the bathroom and I'll be damned if I don't love pikachu.

Platformer: Super Mario World, It's also my first game I ever played.

FPS: It was either Rainbow 6 Vegas or COD 2, I didn't play FPS's for the longest time as I saw them as mindless and idiotic, still not my favorite genre but it is fun.

Adventure games:Legend of Zelda a Link to the Past, I could beat this game with my eyes closed two states away.
