What's the thing that you bought, when you didn't need it, maybe you couldn't afford it and/or it was completely pointless but god damn if it wasn't awesome! How expensive was it, and what's that price to you?

For me, it was my coat. The official BBC licensed Abbyshot replica of David Tennant's Doctor Who coat. God help me, I love that thing. Full on suit lining, with two inside pockets to go with the big outer ones with flaps. Feels just like suede, the buttons are just right. I saw a similar one on Ebay, but the lining was black (when it's supposed to be blue with these sort of stripes (not a different colour, just the same sort of silk in a different direction) and the buttons were wrong. It was less than half the price though, but fuck that. If anyone asks, I'll post a picture.

It cost me £275. I still feel that burn, but frankly my dear, I don't give a damn with that coat billowing behind me in the wind. I probably should give a damn, as I'm trying to save up for my pre-university gap year, needing at least five grand in two years (I currently have about £50 to my name). All in all, yeah. Unlikely as it is, if anyone tried to buy a medium sized David Tennant coat from Amazon UK only to find it was out of stock... yeah, sorry about that!

So what's your that? Was it an outrageous piece of fanboyism? (though to be fair, I do wear it as my own thing, because it's awesome besides. I take care of it though.) Did some collection hobby get the best of you? Did your wallet get prison *****'d by the latest Steam Sale?

Paraphrasing the words of Yahtzee, "I am not a fanboy (yes you are!)", I think my fanboyisms are minor because there is little I am a fanboy of.

Of my points in time I can recall doing this, I would say an E.L.O. Shirt would be the major one. For those of you who don't know a thing about me, I Love The Electric Light Orchestra, but I live in an era that regards E.L.O. as "The band that did 'Mr. Blue Sky', 'Don't Bring me Down' and 'Evil Woman'", so when I buy something with their epic logo on it, I consider it a fanboy act, even though there is little in the ways of their Memorabilia today.
This is kind of what I bought, the Shirt had the spaceship as the logo.

So I bought a T-shirt with their logo on it. They only went up to XL (I am XXL, as of this writing) but damn it, I bought it anyway. I cannot fit in that shirt, and to try is to give people more fodder for tasteless jokes about fat guys, but I don't care. I love that shirt, and my desire is to one day lose enough weight to wear it. If this isn't Fanboy, I don't know what could be.

I'm slowly trying to work on the fanboy thing by hopefully investing money into a record player and backlogging all of their works, but these things take time.

I guess a close second would be the Metal Gear Solid Series; I have bought Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater twice (when it was called Subsistence); I purchased a PS3 just for Metal Gear Solid 4 (ended up loving the system more), I had purchased a book for Metal Gear Solid that I gave to my friend for Christmas that I finished reading before he got to read it (And a record: I finished a book in a day); and I once made a trade for a copy of Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes (For Gamecube), a trade that involved trading back A Sega Console, 20 something games, One brand new copy of Michael Jackson's Moonwalker that this friend of mine destroyed his when he was a kid, after trading the entire previous bundle for A Playstation Console and almost half of my game collection at the time.

And all this for a game system I did not even own yet (Bought one 2 months later. I was about 12-13 when all this happened).

So I guess I am a fanboy, no use denying that.

A novelty mirror-eyepiece thing that can enable you to look behind corners. I bought it in Amsterdam.

Five euros well spent.

My instruments. I bought a bass guitar, a keyboard and an ocarina. I can play about one song on them each.

I recently bought a second winter coat because my first one is dark colored, and my car has a light cloth interior. The resultant fuzz on my coat drives me insane, so I bought a new coat that more closely resembles my car interior. It's surprisingly hard to find a men's coat that isn't black, navy, or dark grey. It was $150 off Amazon, which isn't really too big a dent. I've spent more on textbooks I never wound up using ($220).

I think a full length coat would frustrate me to no end.

If people made tasteful jokes about fat people, they'd probably eat them. [footnote]Admit it, that was clever and you so walked into it.[/footnote]

It's not really frustrating. I wear it open, so it doesn't get in the way and I get that cool billowing effect. The great thing about it is that unlike other full length coats, you don't have to be broad shouldered for it to look good. I have a regular waist length water proof if I know it's going to be rough/I don't trust the people I'm going to be around.

The coat must be protected. It's quite literally irreplaceable! D:

Yeah, that tends to be my argument in favor of consoles. At least you get reliability without having to spend a huge amount of money customizing a rig. That said, I'm an all round gamer, but the two games I bought on the Halloween Steam sale won't run on my computer.

Well, we finally know who really is the God damn Batman! Suck it, Bruce!

That said, I love that thing on the Simpsons when Homer doesn't believe Bruce Wayne is Batman.

I just spent about $100 to get a factory sealed copy of "Voices Of A Distant Star." It's an anime short film that clocks in at around 25 mins.

I spent a considerable ammount of my wages to an online TCG (Urban Rivals) because I am obbessed with collecting the cards! I'm not even a hardcore player of the game. I spend more time in the forums or collecting!! I even then went and baught the statuette that was released (only 1000 made!) and I have nearly all of the in-game cards!

I also have a 400 quid 5.1 speaker system, even though I live in 4m-5m rooms max! (Thats my entire living space!)(Military) Its far too much than I needed, but christ I love them!!!! I'm now one of those guys who gets annoyed if someone watches my telly withoout the speakers on because I can tell the difference!

Being the kind of geek that I am, I spent over $500 US on a replica light saber. My g/f was pissed at me for a week on that one, but it looks so damn sexy over my work desk!
