Why the hate for digital distribution?

It's the future guys!
Especially for PC gaming. I know you don't get a box with it, but is that honestly a big deal?
My perfect gaming world:
Valve would stop ignoring their fanbase and would continue work on their only franchise worth a damn, the Half-Life series, or at least a new Portal game; instead of making zombie multiplayer games that I find frightfully mediocre.
Singleplayer games would be the main focus again with Multiplayer always coming as an extra, unless games are made as specifically Multiplayer, in which case a half-assed Singleplayer campaign should not be tacked on.
Console-to-PC ports would always be decent.
There would be a lot more focus on great story, characters and atmosphere in games as a driving goal of the experience, instead of just "moar ppl 2 blow up". But at the same time, fun gameplay should not be sacrificed in the process either.
Australia would get their act together and introduce an 18+ rating for games, as well as unlimited internet quotas so I can download stuff from Steam without going over my monthly usage.
The majority of the gaming community would grow up and stop being whiny, immature idiots that make me ashamed to be a gamer.
I'll probably think of more later.
