Your (ig) Nobel Prize nominations...

The Nobel Prizes are awarded for great achievements, be they social, scientific or both. I think, though it's time to recognise the achievements of those who through thier dilligent efforts diminish us all as a species. Lut us put forth our IGnobel Prize nominations for the human efluent out there who truly make the world a worse place in which to live.

So Escapists, it's time to name and shame. Lets have your nominations, don't forget to include a category. i.e. science, war, politics et cetera...(I will accept 'douche-baggery' also)

I'm going to get it out of the way and nominate Michael Atkinson for the Ignobel Prize for social stagnation. For his foolish and biased leanings that stood for so long in the way of games being recognised as entertainment for adults and permitting an 18+ rating.

NB - Ok, so I know there's something like this, only it focuses on banal or flawed scientific work. Also, it isn't particularly scornful.

I don't really have a nominee though. My first thought was about some fruit fly research that was ridiculed before it turned out that the results meant a huge leap forward in cancer research or something like that. In that regard I kind of agree with the British guy who said that these awards might not be such a good idea. But I guess it's just harmless fun as long as the committee takes care to only nominate truly ridiculous research as opposed to research that only appears ridiculous but is actually tremendously valuable.
