I remember seeing a commercial, for Neosporin I believe, and it shows two women sitting at a kitchen table. One woman is elderly, likely in her late 60's to 70's, full silver hair and classic "grandma" look. The other woman is her middle aged daughter, and they're having coffee together. The older woman notices a cut on her daughter's arm, and comments about it. The daughter notices it, apparently having forgotten about it entirely, and just waves a hand dismissively about it, saying it's nothing. And it really is nothing, this is just a superficial cut, nothing major. But the older woman gives her a sad, knowing look of "i know better than you" kind of thing, and point to the back of her hand. "That's what I thought once, and I got this." They zoom the camera in REAAAALLY close to show a teeny tiny little blemish on her skin. The daughter looks at it, gets this really worried expression and says, in a voice heavy with dread. "Oh...a scar..." then looks at her own cut thoughtfully. Then it cuts to the "our product works this well on cuts" stuff.
This drives me SO nuts! Seriously? Seriously?! You're trying to say that women are so superficial and body obsessed that a tiny little scar like that is going to be something they regret for their entire lives???!! It just....gah! So annoys me!
Oh! And that Denny's 4th of July commercial, where the old man is eating breakfast, and another guy sits down next to him, looks at the seasonal menu item of pancakes with bluberries, strawberries and cream, (Red, White and Blue), and asks him "Wonder what that tastes like." And the old guy sits there thoughtfully for a second, and then says...and I shit you not...." 'Murica" The younger guy smiles at him, and nods, mentally saying "FUCK YEAH!" apparently, and then they both enjoy their United States is Awesome food at Denny's. I...just....*headdesk*
