A hit-notifier is a sound or animation that plays when you hit your enemy. If there is a better word for it, let me know. Which is your favorite?

For example, while I don't completely agree with the combat of the game, I did enjoy slicing my sword through a horde of enemies in PoP: The Forgotten Sands.
Another favorite is hitting an opponent in any CoD multiplayer game. It's fun to know that the crossbow bolt you just shot went "Thp!" and you blew someone leg off. Also it gives reason to yell at the game when you sprayed an SMG mag at someone 3 ft from you and missed(you don't see the symbol or hear the sound) while they turned around and knifed you.

Onomatopoeia would be nice.

F.E.A.R. 2 was the king for this.

Every bullet you landed in someone made a sickening 'thud' that really sounded like flesh being penetrated. Great stuff.

That weird....I don't know...."pffft" sound in COD multiplayer. Yeah, OK, it's not really a "pfft", but how the hell would you describe it?

I have fond memories of the quake 3 hit noise, it sounded like a pipe or something being blown quickly and lower pitch.

here's someone using it in tf2:

I think it's a "thp" sound, but sometimes when I make the sound, it sounds off.

I dunno why but I had a sickingly pleasurable feeling in HL2 from shooting the combine soldiers. Something about the hits and that screech when they die.

Besides that ye oldie quake engine games always had a nice uhem to the shots.

A fountain of blood, followed by a "you have killed XXXXX", and a large amount of points awarded would be my most satisfying hit marker.

Can't deny it, it's nice to just hit them, but that's not as satisfying as being told you've hit them by their death animation.

I suppose the most satisfying animation to let you know you've hit, is probably the combination of Mirana's arrow's actual hit marker, combined with Terrorblade's death animation, after a particularly difficult blind shot.

...Oh yes.

A splicer screaming in agony after you light them on fire with a plasmid in Bioshock 2 is always fun, or when you shock them while they're standing in water.

The sound a backstab makes in TF2. A nice *swoosh-thunk* followed by the crit noise and your target screaming hilariously. Bonus points if the Spy makes a verbal jab at his victim ("You got blood on my suit!")

It actually sounds to me like its just a firing sound, unless I'm hearing the wrong noise.

It's hard to hear in that vid due to the weapon he's using, check some of the related videos.
Ah ok I did hear it right, but I associated it with the wrong action.

The ping noise from UT2004. It was a mod, but it was awesome, especially when you shot a redeemer or minigun into a group of people/monsters. It's just a high pitched ping that sounds like a table tennis ball being hit.

If I had to pick the worst, I'd say Crysis, I didn't even know if my bullets were hitting.
