Everyone knows about gym, in one way or another, so, I want to hear your opinion about it. To me, it's a waste of time I could be using to learn about the nature of the universe, human mind, mathematics, or how to dance.

Gym class is actually pretty important. Its proven that physical activity does a great job of promoting learning and helps students who have difficulties with it. Also with rising obesity rates we should be encouraging kids to get exercise everyday to stay healthy. Plus its can be a good relaxant, doing physical activities helps people deal with stress and get into a better mindset.

You didn't do any ballroom dance in gym class? It's surprisingly fun.

My overall thoughts on gym class is that it is what the United states needs. In the county I went to school in, the mandatory gym class was half or all (depending where you went) paperwork.

I get the idea behind gym class but....I despise the hell out of that class. For one I'm not a physical powerhouse and my school is a sports school (not as known for education as it is sports) so there being bad at sports isn't very good. So not only do I feel like I'm being judged for being bad at it the sports aren't even that athletic. It's at a point where I wonder why they put such a huge emphasis on sports.

I enjoyed it, I can understand why people don't if your not confident or consider yourself unfit or easily embarrassed or whatever.

I think its great for getting kids interested in sport, fitness and wellbeing It did that for me and HEY I'm a gamer..

I think it's a good thing for a school to have. Schools without PE programs are usually underfunded. PE is just before the arts and after school programs on the chopping block. The thing I hated most about PE was that it was my first class during high school, every year. I was constantly late so I never really got along well with my PE teachers (though I crushed hard on several), and it was always cold out. And you wind up all sweaty and can't shower.

Great in primary school, but once you're older than 12, school really should be more focused on actual learning.

Kids in my country are getting too fat. They can't learn when their too busy monitoring their blood sugar levels. Let gym stay.

As an honest to god fat guy, gym is my personal nemesis.

However, since the 7th grade, my gym grades have been above average, as I always showed up in proper attire, always did something, and at least tried.

I agree with that actually. I liked it enough as a kid in elementary school but when I found out I needed to have a credit or two of it throughout middle and high school that really annoyed the Hell out of me. It's like requiring a years credit in console gaming: some people would love it and lap it up but it's not going to get you a job unless you're a very specific type of person.

I hated gym classes when I was in them. Yeah, I get the idea, but for fuck's sake I look like I've been under a bus (or three), I don't have the slightest inclination to be interested in sports, and I hate being in large groups of people. Hell, There are very few things I've found especially engaging about physical activity, and they weren't even available at my school (for some reason I find swimming pretty fun, and biking wasn't too bad either). But NOOOOOO, they have to go with these high impact exercises that are still screwing with me to this day. Running, FOOTBALL!, basketball, FOOTBALL!, baseball, FOOTBALL!, Volleyball, FOOTBALL!, dancing, FOOTBALL!, aerobics, FOOTBALL!, and more FOOTBALL!. It's like they consulted John Madden to design the Physical Ed Curriculum there. Now if there was a more varied curriculum where students were allowed to choose their activities (kinda like an old summer camp that I went to, that place was great) and provided a swimming pool, my attitude would probably change for the positive. As it stands though, I remain vigilant on my current position of fuck that shit.

I don't mind gym at all. But I do very much mind the way the grade is being set, at least here in Norway (don't know it is like in the other parts of the world).

Basically, the grade is being set based on your achievements, which is just ridiculous. I am pursuing a degree in physics, what if my gym character was just low enough that I wouldn't be accepted into the university?

In my opinion, gym shouldn't be graded unless you know you'll be working with sports after you're done with high school (which I assume is where gym is a mandatory class). I know a lot of courses in the best universities require you to have top characters in every class from high school. Why should how fast I can run have a say as to whether I am allowed to follow my dreams or not?

My gym class was this: Every couple of weeks, we got to play a new sport. Repeat until the end of the year.

I loved gym class. It was my favorite period. It was fun, a good workout, and fun.

I had to take it in elementary/middle school and was pretty indifferent towards it.

In high school (where I am), marching band counts towards a p.e./gym credit, so...yeah. Never took it in high school, never will.

It would be better if they actually taught you how to keep your body in shape... Knowing about how your body functions and how to keep it in shape, both mentally and physically (shock! Your brain is a part of your body too!!) is actually pretty damn important.

I hated it, if it was about exorcise and not sports I wouldn't mind it but I loathe sports. Maybe if people played sports for fun I may like them but guys are way to competitive. Not to mention being a small girls guys were either too afraid to face me or too testosterone rage driven to realize you shouldn't hit a girl with a hockey stick to steal a puck. Actually you shouldn't hit anyone with a hockey stick regardless of gender. Fuck sports people.

Waste of time but it was my favorite period sophomore year. Friends and I always skipped participating to sneak under the bleachers after roll was called to fuck around, smoke weed and get stanky with any girls that would have us. Actually, that's were all my sexual encounters sophomore year happened so yay GYM IS THE BEST!

Early in grade-school it was the best thing ever, it was just an hour of playing soccer with my classmates. Incredibly fun. I even had specific soccer shoes I bought just for it and some goalkeeper gloves too.

After I turned 12 or so, it stopped being mentally stimulating enough, so I'd just go to the library to use the computer once the mandatory exercises were over, which still made me love it, as I could get to watch like 2 episodes of anime during my boring as hell time attending school. :p

It's alright. Fun exercise is useful. And fun. I do understand where those who dislike it come from, and slowly, more and more paperwork is seeping it's way into the PE curriculum. But for now, it's fine, and just another good grade.
