I've become interested in going back through the last generation of console gaming and picking up any of the classics I missed back in the day. The reason that I chose those platforms is because I have a backwards compatible PS3 and a 360 (so Gamecube is out of the question) and going any further than that can get pretty expensive, especially since the EU PS Store gets next to no Classics, unless they're dreadful Disney tie-ins (barring Hercules, that game is awesome) or Vagrant Story, which I've already got. Furthermore, this is a cheap way of almost guaranteeing satisfaction, since most of these games will be £10-20 and their probable acclaim will mean I'll find *something* to enjoy about them.

To begin with, I got myself Okami and Project Zero (AKA Fatal Frame) as well as SMT: Nocturne and the Sly Trilogy, but I want to expand my library even more. I was thinking about getting Beyond Good and Evil and Dragon Quest VIII next.

Anyway, the purpose of this thread can be to generate a nostalgia trip about games that really hit you hard and in a significant way, and that you think should be appreciated by everyone who may have missed them. Then, at the same time, you will be advising me (and others) on which games I should add to my collection.

To get the ball rolling I'll just say that, almost 20 hours in, I love Okami. The art style and music is beautiful, the characters are endearing and the game genuinely gives me a little chuckle here and there. I find myself getting frustrated when brush techniques don't work, but I can admit that it's probably all down to me. Having never enjoyed playing a Zelda game before (though, admittedly, I never *really* tried), I was almost surprised how much I liked Okami. The feeling of scale is awesome, though, as the land feels vast with lots of nuts and crannies to explore but not so many that it's intimidating. Also, while the game lacks difficulty, that is actually a virtue as it keeps the game flowing and helps to emphasize that Amaterasu is a God.

Nice choice with Okami. Many people compare it to Zelda, as do I. I actually think it's a hell of a lot better than any of the Zelda games, the music is beautiful, the graphics are ageless and the humour is subtle and endearing. I got it on the Wii however, so I don't know if it qualifies...

My other choices (if Okami is not allowed) is a toss up between Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. Both are brilliant in their own way and have the 'personality' of the dev teams all over it. The Last Guardian and the Ico/SotC HD collection was a major factor yesterday when I decided to buy a PS3.

Just wait untill you get to certain platform sections, and I swear you'll munching the carpet in frustration.

But yeah, Okami is a brilliant classic.

Brute Force, for the Xbox. Great shooter game, but really underrated. It was much better than the original Halo.

Well this one was from the original Play Station. When I was little, I fell in love with Crash Team Racing. It was interesting because for about a year after I got my PS, we couldn't afford to buy any actual games so I played the demo disc until we did. CTR had a small level on the disc that I spent so many hours on, it was ridiculous. When I finally got the actual CTR for my birthday the next year, it was all the more fun.
(side note for nostalgia's sake: I also cried when I got my Gameboy Advance. There's a backstory to that but it speaks for itself. Needless to say, I still have it.)

Wow... you got a backwards compatible ps3 as well as Lucifer's call.
Congratulations, I now hate you :D
Well, for me a classic game would have to be Future cop, LAPD, or Unholy War (loooooooooooved that game). Both incredibly old for the psone.
As for classic ps2 games, i'd have to go with Metal Arms: Glitch in the system, Operation Winback (one, two was crap), Primal and Zone of the Enders 1/2.

Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory for Xbox. OMG that has to be one of my most favorite stealth games ever... And lets see... I guess I'll go with SoTC too, mostly because I never had a ps2 for more than a month and that was one of the few games I played on it.

Do you one better; Skies of Arcadia for the Dreamcast/GameCube. Will never stop praising that game.

Actually I really like Chrono Cross. Maybe it's because it has a new game+ option so if I want to play again I don't have to spend hours grinding again but it's my default game when I'm bored.

For PS2 would have to be all the Ratchet & Clank games, The Sly Trilogy and the first 3 Jak & Daxter games, I didn't liket the spinoffs that much.

Also Starfox adventures on gamecube :3

Twisted Metal:Black, Shadow of the Colossus, and Castlevania:Lament of Innocence will always have my heart for the PS2. I can't forget to mention the Kingdom Hearts games either!

Kotor.
Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge. (It's not very well-known, but I like it.)
Kotor 2.
Thief: Deadly Shadows.

Most of the Tony Hawk games on the Xbox (I have memories of playing them with friends, not having to worry about school work and the like). I also loved Just Cause and Far Cry Instincts. In fact, I recently bought them again on X360. Finally Fahrenheit, cause it was such a unique and engaging experience. Let's forget about the final portion of the game, it was that first section of the game where dealing with the aftermath of what happened that was great.

Oh wait, I forgot the Splinter Cell series!

Lucifer's Call is on Amazon for pretty cheap these days. I got mine for £10, having previously seen it for £50 a few months ago.

Also, Operation Winback led to some awesome multiplayer times with my friends. It was tacky as all shit, but still so fun (when you unlocked all of the characters).

Yeah, actually some of the platforming can be frustrating as hell and I've found myself seething at the game haha .. but then it goes and wins me back with its charm.

Just out of curiosity, how much longer do I have left in the game? I just cured the Emperor of the city but have yet to take out the Water Dragon.

Aww, dude, you're about just under halfway through the game, loads to go yet!
