I've become interested in going back through the last generation of console gaming and picking up any of the classics I missed back in the day. The reason that I chose those platforms is because I have a backwards compatible PS3 and a 360 (so Gamecube is out of the question) and going any further than that can get pretty expensive, especially since the EU PS Store gets next to no Classics, unless they're dreadful Disney tie-ins (barring Hercules, that game is awesome) or Vagrant Story, which I've already got. Furthermore, this is a cheap way of almost guaranteeing satisfaction, since most of these games will be £10-20 and their probable acclaim will mean I'll find *something* to enjoy about them.
To begin with, I got myself Okami and Project Zero (AKA Fatal Frame) as well as SMT: Nocturne and the Sly Trilogy, but I want to expand my library even more. I was thinking about getting Beyond Good and Evil and Dragon Quest VIII next.
Anyway, the purpose of this thread can be to generate a nostalgia trip about games that really hit you hard and in a significant way, and that you think should be appreciated by everyone who may have missed them. Then, at the same time, you will be advising me (and others) on which games I should add to my collection.
To get the ball rolling I'll just say that, almost 20 hours in, I love Okami. The art style and music is beautiful, the characters are endearing and the game genuinely gives me a little chuckle here and there. I find myself getting frustrated when brush techniques don't work, but I can admit that it's probably all down to me. Having never enjoyed playing a Zelda game before (though, admittedly, I never *really* tried), I was almost surprised how much I liked Okami. The feeling of scale is awesome, though, as the land feels vast with lots of nuts and crannies to explore but not so many that it's intimidating. Also, while the game lacks difficulty, that is actually a virtue as it keeps the game flowing and helps to emphasize that Amaterasu is a God.
