We've all been playing video games for a fair amount of time. At least I'm reasonably sure we have. Anyway we've all come across those moments. The moments when our hearts are soaring higher than a space satellite. The jump up and cheer "I can't believe that just happened to me." or "I can't believe I just did that!" moments. What is your proudest video game moments. It can be something as sentimental as finally beating that old NES title after 20 years or something you achieve in online play that you most likely will never be able to replicate. A stand out play in a multi player game that was 1 million to one chance that it would work. I'll share just a few.

Years ago I was playing Halo 3 with my bro. Now I'm no fan of online shooters or the FPS genre in general still my brother asked me and on occasion I would join him for an online match so while I may not have been the best by this time I wasn't exactly a noob either. It was the valhalla map and I had just gotten the Spartan laser which is honestly still one of my favorite guns in gaming. I could see a banshee in the distance. It was unoccupied but I knew an enemy would get it before us so I decided to blow it straight to hell before they could. Well just a moment before the beam fired an enemy got in. The take off didn't even start an I not only blew the vehicle but him straight to kingdom come. Just the sheer odds that someone got in the damn thing right before I fired has ingrained this shot into my memory forever.

One other more sentimental achievement of mine was a few months ago. We still have a working NES and one of my favorite titles growing up was a top down jeep shooter called Jackal. Its severely underrated and while it is a solid game it did remind me, especially in the final level, what NES hard is. Its a 6 level score attack game and anything can kill you and you only get one hit before you lose a life. The scoring system though rewards you with lives at decent intervals (sometimes two a level if you are really good). So the final level. I had just fought my way through one of THE hardest levels in video games I've ever played (its the helicopters that kill me). The final boss is a two stage boss. First a big base with laser turrets that fire in set patterns and are a ***** with constant reinforcing tanks coming in from the bottom of the screen. Once that falls its on. A giant tank with a beam of death and a free spinning turret are your final obstacle. My heart is racing I'm down to my last guy. I hit him with a grenade and he falls. Finally. I just took a step back and smiled and laughed and almost brought a tear to my eye. This was the first time I had ever beat the game. I had been playing this since I was about 6 or so, I'm 22 now.

So there are just two of my more memorable stories. I got about three more I want to talk about but you guys don't want to read my video game life story. So now share your stories. Your stories of triumph, blood, sweat, tears, and ruined thumbs!

Got to be when I completed the National Dex on Pokemon Platinum, excluding a few mystery event legendaries which aren't needed for the in-game certificate. I've been fan of Pokemon since it first became big in the West well over a decade ago and so that felt like the culmination of the many Pokemon games I've played, finally catching 'em all (well, at the time that is, they've since released a couple of hundred more >.>) I plan to redo it on X, with Gen V, VI and all mystery event pokemon included this time.

I remember yelling for joy and punching the air (seriously) upon seeing both Kefka and Ultimecia die when I finally beat them. Ultimecia (if you've heard me rant before) is a ridiculous boss who I refuse to comment on at this time lest I pop another blood vessel...

Kefka I did beat first time but it's still a very long fight and it was VERY close. Something to note, btw, is whenever you beat a boss in FF6 - there is a big flash on the screen with a lightning strike style sound effect before they fade away in not-gentle manner. Anyway, I was on the verge of death more times than I care to count, and in the end made it by the skin of my teeth. It was a do or die moment - he had a massive technique coming and I knew I may well not make it even if everyone was at full health so I had 2 options:

1) Heal everyone and brace for impact/certain doom
2) Launch one final offensive and try to kill him first

I went with the 2nd option, even though I had no idea how much HP he had left. For all I knew he was nowhere near dead. But I tried it anyway; everyone doing their worst. My last character of the round did their damage and there was a 5 second pause, which felt much longer. I thought I had failed, when suddenly... FLASH!! XD

Beating my childhood nemesis Super Mario World as well as each of the three Donkey Kong Countries with over 100% completion, completing the Pokedex in Pokemon Blue when we still only had 150 Pokemon... can't think of anything else. Generally it's when I take a game to 100% completion, since "just" beating a game these days is pretty easy.

EDIT: Welp I felt pretty badass in both Kingdom Hearts games once I managed to beat Sephiroth. And I wrote a 100% walkthrough for the first KH, that was pretty cool too.

Oh the Final Fantasy boss battles. Seriously say what you will about Square Enix but their bosses and hidden bosses are some of the most nail bitingly awesome/hard characters I've ever fought in video games. I can only imagine what what that must've felt like for you. I think I had a similar but less reaction when I beat Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts 1.

When my 25man guild was fighting Blade Lord Ta'yak (2nd boss of Heart of Fear) on Heroic, we had already downed that boss and our progress was stuck at the Amber-Shaper Un'sok HC (5th out of 6). But that night everything was going wrong on Blade Lord, lots of people making mistakes and dying from every single ability of the boss (except me, I rarely die from such mistakes and I always use invisibility and mass resurrection to save time).

Therefore the raid leader decided to sacrifice anyone that would be caught by the Blade Lord's Overwhelming Assault, an ability that selects one player, shadowsteps behind him, and hits the selected player and everything in a front cone area for a lot of area damage (shared). If you take the blow alone you are killed, no immunity spell can save you.

So the first target selected was me, and because I was severely under-geared my damage was not that high, so everyone was happy: "YAY ITS TZZIM, BYE TZZIM, YOU WONT BE MISSED TZZIM" and the raid leader asked me to go die in a corner.
So I said "FUCK YOU GUYS, I AM NOT DYING TONIGHT" and the moment the boss stunned me, just before the blow, I blinked away from the area damage unharmed.

None knew that was possible, there were rumors in guild that mages could do it, but I was the first to actually survive it, among 5 mages all competing for a spot. You can imagine the laughs and screams, the mood was back at the usual cheerful tone and we went straight to kill Amber-Shaper HC that night.

I wish I had a video of that night or a screenshot, there were a lot of moments I really made everyone laugh, I loved cheering up our team when everyone was getting tired and disappointed.

I miss those times. :)

Well I got the most amazing kill in the the Attack on Titan tribute game, if you haven't played it, it is what it sounds like. You fly around the city with your double swords and 3DMG aiming for Titan necks without getting instakilled by them, for fans of the show the entire premise can carry the game for them and it's really good mechanically too. It's a very enjoyable multiplayer game especially.

Basically I aimed myself (playing Mikasa) down a street at full speed, hit attack once when flying past a Titan and somehow hit the perfect spot for like 850 points and didn't even slow down. Fuck it, i'm out. Nothing is ever going to beat that. I'm not even playing Levi who has that technique as his special move, i'm just naturally amazing.

The thing with me most people who have played with me a lot would tell you, is that i'm usually average/slightly above average at a game, sometimes do something REALLY stupid and sometimes pull off acts of greatness out of nowhere that I could never recreate.

Like that turnaround Chie instakill, right Krazykid?

Also double perfecting a Tager as Mu-12 once in BlazBlue. Fuck you guy. You picked Tager in character select, you automatically lose all right to pity, empathy, sympathy or any other nice words. He was permanently stuck on other side of the screen due to entirely too many projectiles flying around. Spawn guns, throw arrows, use Divine Light of the Heavens for extra lockdown if he starts to move, more guns, more arrows, gun super and the final secret "fuck you" technique of surprise rushdown > overhead into immediate Wisdom of the Divines super. FUCK. YOU. TAGER. HA!

[sub][sub]Yes I have issues with Tager. No I will not apologise, that guy is fucking broken[/sub][/sub]

Probably when my speedrun in SotN scored #2 on the european XBL board, with the guy above me clearly exploiting every available glitch in the game to get his time. Not a huge achievement, and i know people have done way faster legit speedruns than mine, but still :p

Any time a DotA game goes well is pretty high on there as well. Did 14/0/12 with Sven the other day. It was a good day.

I whole heartedly agree with you on the Tager subject. Also amazing on that Titan kill. I've heard of a game or two of Attack on Titan but I didn't know if they were released in America or worth my time. Hell that thing you did sounds like something straight out of the show which is freaking awesome!

Completing the Pokedex in Gen V including the event Pokemon. Had to play and transfer the other Pokemon games to get them all in the fifth gen. I finished just a few days before Black and White 2 came out which was fitting.

Finding all the Gold Skulltulas in Ocarina of Time without a guide about 10 years ago.

Beating Dullahan(a super hard optional boss)in Golden Sun: Lost Age. Not only is he really difficult, but the dungeon to get to him is filled with powerful enemies and devious puzzles.

Doing the Majora's Mask three day run without using glitches. You have to go through every dungeon in the second three day cycle. Nearly impossible unless you know that game inside and out and doing some crazy planning.

Beating the hardest difficulties on lots of games in general.

Recently, beating the final boss in Riku's story in Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories was a highlight. Took me a lot of attempts, and when I finally managed to beat him, I had done so by the skin of my teeth. Frantically dodging, card cancelling and doing as much damage as I could was a tense and thrilling experience. It was truly a boss fight that tested your abilities and everything you had learned up until that point, something you don't see enough of in games these days (*cough* Devil May Cry *cough*).

Finishing XCOM: Enemy Unknown on Classic Ironman was awesome too. It took me almost a year, but I finally did it and I kicked those alien scumbags back out into space! Only lost two countries as well.

Maxing out my Breton mage's Alteration and Destruction was pretty cool in Skyrim. Mass Paralysis and giant, kamehameha lightning storms for everyone! Made me feel incredibly badass.

From my childhood completing the original Kingdom Hearts as a ten year old was the first time I fully completed a lengthy game I think. I loved that game so much that I replayed it endlessly and when I finally took down the final boss, it just felt amazing. Playing it now it's really not that difficult, but I was ten give me some credit :p

Ugh, the final fight against Repliku in Sora's side, Proud difficulty, was a pain in the ass that I'd be perfectly happy to never experience again. I was furious by the time I finally beat him down.

OT: Well, beating the secret boss Unknown in Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep on Proud difficulty comes to mind. Granted, I've only done it with Aqua, but after spending about two hours being wrecked as Ventus by the loss of invincibility frames during dodge rolls due to reduced performance of the PSP during some of Unknown's attacks, I pretty much said "Balls to this" and stopped. The most rage-inducing part was that in one attempt he literally had one hit left and then just spammed his clones until my PSP went "lolurded!" But I was elated for the better half of a day when I beat him as Aqua.

Otherwise... hm... maybe finally crafting Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker and Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa's Rest on my Warlock in World of Warcraft. Neither of which are really anything of note, though, because I didn't get Thunderfury before Wrath of the Lich King and I was something like the fourth or fifth person in my guild to get Dragonwrath due to my primary character being a Death Knight at the time. Though, at the end of Cataclysm my guild was in the top 50 raiding guilds on our realm and my Death Knight was within the top 100 best-geared characters on the realm. That was pretty neat while it lasted.

Hm...getting my 10,000th online multiplayer kill in Resistance 2, and thus getting my first platinum trophy comes to mind. That took me months to get.

The Sum of All Zeroes trophy in World at War.

Platinum of Final Fantasy XIII, and XIII-2 I guess.

Oh, and when I was a little kid, the first time in Kingdom Hearts when I beat the Ice Titan, and more importantly, Sephiroth. Both of those victories felt truly amazing the first time I got them.

I'll keep the WoW story train going with one of my own. Just recently I managed to finally beat Kanrethad Ebonlocke in the green fire quest. The amount of hours I spent being obliterated over and over by him was insane. The fight's difficulty honestly reminded me of some the heartracing moments in games like Dark Souls, Monster Hunter and Soul Sacrifice. After another few hours of attempt I finally hit that pure moment of gamer zen (I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about, you can't hear the outside world, you don't stop to think and your reflexes just assume control) and managed to finally take him down.

The funny part is I expected to hoot and holler and cheer after the win, but I was honestly just trembling with andrenaline and shock. I just ate a chunk of his soul right afterward and logged out and essentially just let it soak in for a while.

Most certainly an unforgettable chapter in my gaming history.

Probably beating FFXII's Yiazmat without touching the controller.

50 million HP, lots of immunities and it hits like a truck, but with the right gambit setup and equipment the fight can be fully automated. People might say: "What's the fun in that?", but for me that was one of the main attractions of FFXII. Setting up gambits and tuning the efficiency of my characters so they could work as a well-oiled machine. The fight still took well over an hour but it was amazing.

I'd say my second place goes to getting the platinum trophy in Demon's Souls. Close to four consecutive playthroughs were needed for it and curse Pure Bladestone!

Managing to S-Rank "Occupation of Arteria Carpals" on Armored Core: For Answer without cheating. I even managed to save the NPC tagalong who's supposed to die on that mission!

To put it in perspective for those who haven't played the game, this mission basically involves taking both the end-game fights (each one consisting of 2 mechs, each of whom would make a fairly challenging boss in their own right) from the other 2 endings on at once with only 1 random NPC for "backup"

It was a near thing too, I literally finished off the last of the 4 with my last few missiles.

I'm actually trying to do it again on a different account and have no idea how I did it.

Oh God, yes, I'd forgotten about that one. For me that was the single most difficult mission in any game ever. I managed to S-rank Normal mode after a lot of trouble, but S-ranking Hard mode really required the glitch for me. Damn that Old King for being so useless.

Yeah, I had to use that glitch to S-Rank the Hard version too. I'm willing to admit that doing the Hard Version legit would probably be beyond my capabilities.
