I just saw star trek last night ( And sneaked into Wolverine, which was awesome) and I was blown away, I thought it was really well done, the story never left you bored, it filled in all the loopholes trekies will be sure to look for and overall even if you arnt a star trek fan, it was a movie you could easily get into.

Personally I'd give it 9 out of 10, dont know why not 10 out of 10, but anyway, I want to hear what you guys would give it?

And if you havent seen it yet, go see it then come back and post your rating

I thought it was pretty bad in all honesty, the best characters in the film had too little screen time.
The story was just a mess that was glued together by convenience, too me it just seemed like a cheap cash in.

4 stars out of 5. Was pretty good, but it was just lacking! Some of the screenplay sucked ass, but it was made up for it with some pretty cool action scenes.

That's an interesting standpoint, Tenmar. I thought the way the characters' relationships were handled was the best part of the movie. The antagonism between Kirk and Spock was really fascinating to me.
Although, I'm down with you on John Cho. Dude's Korean, Sulu's Japanese. Again, I like Cho, but he looks Korean, so when he says his name is Hikaru Sulu, I cringe. Hollywood just thinks Americans don't know the difference (not that everyone can, but a lot of people have seen Harold and Kumar).

I think overall, as a film production, it worked out great. The acting, direction, and production values were all top-notch. Non-Star-Trek-wise, there is absolutely nothing to complain about in this film.

As for the Star Trek itself, well, that's unfortunately left up to opinion, and not everyone is open enough to give it a chance. I think, however, that it's just fine. I might have chosen a few different plot points, but I think they pulled it off better than I've seen it done before (Voyager's Endgame finale).

For all those who complain about "not following the original vision," well, not every Star Trek production ever did. And is that necessarily a bad thing? It's not as if it has become antithetical. Even Gene Roddenberry himself said that he hoped one day someone would come along and do Star Trek bigger and better than he ever did before. I think that's finally happened.

Having had no prior experience of Star Trek, I had no idea what to expect from the film.

I liked it. I'd give it 7.5/10; it's nothing particularly special and it's nowhere near Oscar-worthy, but it had great production values, an interesting story, and good acting. Nothing revolutionary, but a well put-together, entertaining film.

Before the film, I'd never watched on whole star Trek episode and din't think much of it. Then my dad dragged me into the cinema to watch it and I was bblown away. The opneng scene gave me goosebumps and the rest of the film never faltered. Kirk does get his arse kicked a lot though doesn't he?

Being a person who's Star Trek knowledge consits of Faimily guy jokes, I'd give it a 4/5 it was fun and and intresting. Though the story is a bit werid, I've been told it's par for the coure for the series, the straitness of Spock's hair freaks me out and everyone needed to stop being so much of a dick. Overall I enjoyed it and would gladly do see it again.

Not a big Trek fan and I thought after the first half hour or so it was a pretty poor offering. A weak story with overblown dialogue, despite some solid acting the cast could do little with the script given to them. Effects were good. Overall, a functional action film that never quite convinced me why I should give a damn - 6/10.

Having never watched any Star Trek stuff before, I still thought it was really good, the story was easy to follow and the effects were amazing.

I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Trekkie. I wasn't expecting to enjoy it, but I gotta admit, it was probably one of the best, if not the best, Star Trek films I've ever seen. It was action packed, there was plenty of the good ol' pseudo-science (Scotty's equation for Transwarp Beaming), and plenty of references to the original series to keep grumpy old purists like myself happy.

What I found most striking about it was how accessible it was. In the past, I've found it difficult to convince my friends to sit down and watch "Wrath of Khan" with me. This one, however, it seems they couldn't wait to see. I went with a large group of friends, and every single one of them enjoyed it. One of them even mentioned wanting to watch the original series just to see more.

So, in short... Best Trek ever, probably this summer's best movie. Don't let anyone talk you out of it if you're on the fence, 'cause you'll be missing out on a great ride.

I would give it a 9. It was damn near perfect... It threw some very meaty bones to long-time Trekkies, but was still accessible to newcomers.

I liked it as a standalone movie but I am detracting from it for being a retcon hell.. That and a time travel based story so basically everything is an alternate reality now.. but they have a person from the original future so... eh.. I dunno.. kinda hoaky. It writes off the entire rest of the IP.

That and Vulcan destroyed wtf.. one of the most important and iconic species of the IP is now endangered.

I disagreed with several of the decisions that they made, but I liked the movie; it was a lot of fun. I was disappointed that they turned Kirk into a shallow, rebellious, unlikable douchebag, I thought that most of the humor fell embarrassingly flat, and after the film was over my mind was drawn back to some pretty ridiculous coincidences that were central to the plot. Even with those weaknesses, however, the movie looked great, it was consistently exciting (even in the boring in-between bits, thanks to some nifty camerawork), and Zachary Quinto as Spock was fantastic, and more than made up for Kirk. I really enjoyed this movie, and I'm looking forward to another JJ Abrams Star Trek treatment.

So... 8/10?

Yeah, but what would they do from here if they hadn't thrown the future of the series into question? Remade all of the old Trek movies?

It was actiony, I'll give it that. It was also surprisingly funny (at times), but the story made little sense. How did Kirk find Spock on that planet? Why was Scotty there? Why did the Romulans have to dig a whole to the center of Vulcan in order to destroy it when it was shown that red matter (which wasn't explained) could form a black hole from any explosion (they seriously could have just dropped it on to the planet and shot it with the mining laser). Why was Kirk made first officer? So many things just didn't make sense.
