Do you have games you bought on Steam that never worked or do not work anymore for unexplained reason?

I have the Sims 3 with the infamous initialization error at start-up despite being able to play it on the same computer a month ago.

Rage which Steam just refuses the

Oblivion, which is partially my fault due to the many mods I threw on it, yet even after deleting the oblivion directory and re installing fresh it doesn't want to work.

I bought a hard-copy of Dungeons & Dragons: Daggerdale when it came out for $15. I wasn't expecting an amazing game for that price, just a fun action game with a D&D base. I was expecting it to work. After installing from the disc and patching it through Steam all I got was a second or two of it's flash screen before getting an error message and closing the program. I tried installing it through Steam, but that didn't work either.

I checked the Steam forums and Atari's forums and found people with similar problems that were never fixed. I even posted on the Atari forums but that got me nowhere fast, and that's a separate story. Suffice it to say, I'm never buying another product by Atari or Bedlam.

The original Far Cry. Worked brilliantly on my older computer, but since that game seems to not cooperate with Windows 7 64-bit it refuses to work on my laptop. Which sucks, truly, since I loved that game but currently don't have a computer capable of playing it. (._.)

Metro 2033 doesn't work at all. I have tried it on 3 different machines. One is really old and simply doesn't have the system requirements, another doesn't have graphics card support, and the other.... well I have no idea why it doesn't work on that, it is perfectly capable.

I've yet to get Knights of the Old Republic to work at all.

Also, Fallout: New Vegas worked at one point, but then the problem of "game freezes on loading screen" popped up, and my original workaround stopped functioning.

Fully half of my Steam games don't work. I buy all of the Humble Indie Bundles these days, and since my computer is horrendously outdated (and was even when I got it many years ago) any remotely demanding games just fail. It's still worth the price for the few that work, though, and I'll get a better computer to run them all on some day.

I derped and bought Metro 2033 thinking that since I could easily run TF2 ion the highest settings I could probably smoothly run Metro on at least the lowest.

I was oh-so very wrong. And now the shortcut sits there on my desktop being largely unplayable because the framerate takes a huge dump whenever anything more detailed than a blank wall moves across my FOV.

Good thing it was only $5 on Steam sale that day.

Just Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. It works fine, but after the escape from the hotel, and after you meet... Brian (I think) you have to push a cabinet in order to progress. Pushing this cabinet crashes the game.

If you happen to push it and not crash the game (you have to lower the graphics and push it about a pixel at a time...) when you get to the ship, you can't progress unless you're psychic or know exactly where to fire the cannon. The lights that are supposed to show up don't show up on newer graphics cards.

Fallout: New Vegas, Oblivion, and Skyrim belong to the family of frequent crashes

Civ 5 has a skippable intro, that you can't skip until about 15 seconds into it. (apparently the game is loading up while you play, and you can't skip to the menu until it's loaded up completely)

Mass Effect 2 and Lego Batman. The former because I don't have a strong enough processor or non-HDMI sound driver for it, the latter because I just haven't downloaded it yet.

Also the Witcher. I seem to be one of the lucky ones to suffer the unsolvable MSVCR80.dll problem, so unless I reformat this machine I doubt I'll ever be able to play it.

You can edit the config file to disable the intro video, but then it just sits there with a black screen instead until it's finished loading. Whether that's better or worse is a matter of opinion.

FEAR 2: Project Origin.

First playthrough was fine. Second and subsequent playthroughs, it didn't give me the command prompt to continue the game.

Other than that, I've never had a game not work.

Oh jeez. Since I got a weak computer there is a LOT. Majority WORK but the Framerate is always so fucking LOW. I am talking like 10... Maybe 20 if I am lucky.

Alpha Protocol
Call of Duty 4
Grid
Killing Floor
Nearly all the source games. Mainly TF2 in this regard.
Need for Speed Undercover
Sonic Generations
Sanctum

Star Wars Battlefront 2 doesn't work for me. The game starts up just fine, I can see the menu and everything, but once I actually try to get into the GAME portion of the game, the game closes on me and I'm brought back to my desktop.

I haven't seen a problem like this before and Steam support isn't helping, anyone got any ideas?

The first 2 Oddworld games. They just don't work, start up and go to a black screen, can't get any further in or even alt-tab out.

For newer graphics you need to apply patch(dont know which one is enough but 1.3 worked for me), or lower details to low as said above. Patch is also good because it adds possible HDR.
