I am currently about to start my 3rd (and last) year of university studying Animation. As most people know, in the final year you are required to write a dissertation. Now ive got lots of books, ive found lots of websites etc but i figure why not ask the people who actually play games, and want to voice their opinion? I think you might know where this is going
basically my dissertation is based around 3D animation in the media, so a chunk will be based on video games...and a smaller portion within that will be on online games. What i want to find out is why people play them and how it might affect them psychologically (eg, i know there are alot of younger people playing games, so how the violoence might affect them, language use, substituting social interaction to talk online etc).
In one of my books some "old man" was talking about online gaming, and he'd clearly never played them so what he was writing was a bit one sided...but it mentioned something about how online games alienate people. I can see how in some ways, but the only online game i play, over the past few years since i started, i can say that it does the opposite. I log in most days just to talk to my friends in game and i dont think i'd still be playing if it werent for the people...because thats really what makes an online game...it'd be pretty useless without players
so really, i'd be very gratefull if you could just talk about your online gaming experience and how you feel about it(feel free to talk about gaming experiences in general, not just about online games). Just so i have some views other than my own...and that stupid "old man" who doesnt know what he's talking about......
ive posted this on a forum for the online game i play, and will post more around to get as many posts as i can. Thank you to anyone who takes the time to read this and respond, your help is apreciated
