While watching Real Steel (actually a pretty good movie) I noticed the 'X-Box 720' advertisement (also noticed the grand stadium for the final showdown was owned by Bing...hahahaha).

Question: What do you guys think the next generation of consoles will try to implement or what you would like to see and what are the chances of seeing them in the next few years.

I think that Sony will try to bring back the eye-toy to challenge kinect...I'd say they would introduce it for PS3 but they already wasted enough money on their motion sensors.

I'd like to see some sort of virtual reality (VR) be implemented but I doubt it. The closest thing I've seen to VR is wearing screens as glasses and essentially playing just as you would play Time Crisis. But who knows, 10 years ago I never thought I would see a game with graphics like I do now.

Other than that, its most likely just going to be a technical upgrade and new prettier case. Sony may change the controller. I'm also really hoping that they don't focus on 3-D, just really over it.

Yeah, I know the Wii-U is in development so this goes for just the Playstation and X-Box.

I would like to see more tech like this- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vUqrEAjCLKI

Multi-player but one screen? I'd wear glasses for that. I realise it uses the same technique as 3-D but this is actually practical.

Now that I have the money, I actually think a new generation of consoles is just what we need. The Xbox 360 is becoming terribly outdated and does lag like a ***** all too often. Plus I want four player split-screen to make a much wanted return.

No need to worry about PCs, though. New tech never fails to come out for them every year.

VR is more than just glasses and time crisis in some designs. Some have a large steel mesh ball which rolls as you walk in it, allowing a program to sense your movement, as well as hooking up lots of movement detecting diodes on your arms and legs and body to track them. From there, you wear the glasses to see the virtual world. Great in theory, but the size and cost of such systems would make them highly impractical.
What I would like to see from new consoles? Modular construction allowing removal and replacement of parts by the user, so that their hardware can be upgraded on the fly rather than being stuck with a piece of shit 6 years down the track. I would also like some initial hardware that rivals top of the line PCs.
If these two goals are met, I may consider buying a console. However, I would likely decide against it due to the crappy control mechanisms. I can't stand those stupid thumbsticks, nor the lack of buttons that I can hotkey.
