#1. Jill Valentine - I wasn't a big fan of her role in Resident Evil 5 but to me she's a gaming icon.

#2. Liara T'soni - From the naive scientist to the cold and calculating Shadow Broker, she's been one of my favorites since my Shepard met her on Therum back in 2007. She's also the star of one of my favorite DLC's "Lair of the Shadow Broker."

#3. Samus Aran - Need I say more?

#4. Chun Li - My preferred SF fighter.

#5. Alyx Vance - Great example of how to not over-sexualize a female character in a game.

Honorable Mentions: Morrigan (Dragon Age: Origins), Talim (Soul Calibur), Lara Croft (Tomb Raider), Tali'Zorah Vas Normandy (Mass Effect Series), Bastilla Shan (Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic), Jade (Beyond Good and Evil), Leiliana (Dragon Age: Origins).

Edit: Added Jade and Leiliana (gotta love Lei's french accent).

Alright...I'll give it a shot. It's a hard list for me, since most women in games are excruciatingly annoying. but ...um..not in any order..

5. Sheva Alomar (RE5) - As an AI, she's dumb as fuck, but as a character she isn't bad. Well done on being good at something, and not looking like a hooker.

4. Fina (Skies of Arcadia) - She's shy, in that weird stereotypical sort of way, but she actually manages to grow and actually change by the end of the story.

3.Neeshka (Neverwinter Nights 2) - Probably one of the more brilliant characters I have come across, she starts of on the crazy end of the annoying spectrum, but through her character arc, and your own adventures, she ends up being a decent character, deeper than a cookie pan anyway. A welcome change.

2. Terra Branford (Final Fantasy 6) - ...Kind of a theme going on here. But a well done character. I seem to like it when a girl actually has depth..personality...you know, human qualities.

1. Lea Nichols (The Experiment) - Because..that's all the women i can think of that didn't annoy me in video games? I didn't even finish the game, but I think she was characterized really well...unintentionally.

Technically Liara is not a female, I know but someone was going to say it. Well anyway the one's that come to mind are Kasumi form Mass Effect, The Boss form MGS3, Veronica from Fallout: New Vegas, Liara form Mass Effect, and umm Meryl form MGS.

5: Zoey - Left 4 Dead - Becuase, why not. She's the original Female apocalypse survivor.
4: Princess Zelda - The legend of Zelda - She's pretty cool for a princess. Especially in windwaker. Pirate princesses. Don't see too many of those these days.
3: Katt Monroe - Star Fox - Definately one of the cooler female Star Fox characters. While only a relatively minor character, still worth the notice for her amazing ship in Command, and rather humourous relationship with Falco.
2: Jade - Beyond Good and Evil - Did you play that game!? She was badass. With just a staff a camera and the assisstance from a pig, she saved the world from alien invasion. Go figure.
1: Tifa - Final Fantasy - Tifa definately holds a high badass status. Not only is she one of the coolest party members in FFVII, but she punches everything to death, while all the other characters have to use weapons. She is definately packing punches.

- Lydia. Because it's Lydia... I leave her at home so she's always safe and I like to imagine her happy to see me whenever I get back from adventuring.
- Ashley Williams. From day 1 I enjoyed her character in Mass Effect and I figure she'd be great in bed.
- Leliana. She's kind, good looking and has an accent... Win win win
- Kairi, specifically Kingdom Hearts. Genuinely wanted to save her and she's voiced by Hayden Panettiere
-Triss Merigold. Strong, intelligent and intelligent whose sexualisation isn't fan-service so much as a good characterisation choice

No particular order:

~ Faith (Mirror's Edge)
~ Bayonetta (Bayonetta)
~ Mai Hasegawa (Oni)
~ Midori Himeno (Evil Zone)
~ Setsuna Saizuki (Evil Zone)

I remember liking my female protagonist in Jade Empire too, if that counts.

I'm not going to list player characters, because usually they aren't a preset character and so I don't think they count.

Morrigan. Dragon Age Origins.
What can I say? I love the shrew. :p

Malik - Deus Ex HR.
She's feisty and confident. I like that in a woman.

Aveline - Dragon Age 2.
Another strong confident woman, but one who is not afraid to eventually show a softer side.

Imoen - Baldur's Gate 1 & 2.
Heya, it's her, Imoen. Your old childhood friend who leaves everything behind to be with you when you need her most. I've played those games countless times, and I never fail to smile when she cheerfully turns up.

Cassidy - Fallout NV.
I do love a redhead. ;)

This is in no particular order.

GLaDOS - Portal/Portal 2

Morrigan - Dragon Age: Origins

Veronica - Fallout: New Vegas

Tali'Zorah nar Rayya - Mass Effect/Mass Effect 2/Mass Effect 3

Rita Mordio - Tales of Vesperia

Honestly that last one was a tough choice between Rita and Judith.

Alice from Alice: Madness Returns, (Looks/acts/but does not SOUND very similarly to an old GF of mine, so it's very amusing to play around as her).

Sakura Kasugano from Street Fighter, my character of choice -- whenever she's available -- since her first appearance in SFAlpha 2.

Mission Vao from Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, I like Twi'Leks. And she's very upbeat, given her situation as a street urchin.

Harley Quinn from Arkham Asylum/City, Cuz Harley is just awesome. Nevermind that her outfits are also very appealing. I wouldn't mind seeing her in her animated series attire ingame though.

Christine from Fallout New Vegas: Dead Money, you hear all about her from Veronica. It's fun to meet her. She's in a bad situation, but turns out to be the most helpful of your little crew. And I also hold out hope that maybe she'll reunite with Veronica someday and have some on-screen lesbo action.
