Just something I wanted to ask to the general Escapist people.

Who or what is the true you? Do you substantially change your personality for the internet and if so, why? Or do you like to be honest and stay like you are normally when on here and also, if so why?

I myself am pretty much the same here as I am offline. I treat this place as if it were a real community and I wouldn't want to be mean to the people in my community. Such a loving group of people you lot are.

So all in all, with the exception of a few angry rants and overly hateful speeches from time to time, I'm actually the exact same person on and offline.

So, Escapist, what is the true you like?

The true me is a very confused and quick bugger who keeps hiding himself.

I'll get back to you when I can corner him again.

Like you, Julian, I'm mostly the same here as I am IRL. But here, it's easier to ask questions or to vent some of the anxiety and anger that I battle in daily life. I don't feel like a burden... maybe because I'm fairly anonymous among this crowd.

I love this place, and I love every one of you guys. :)

Look, your title brings up some emo kids a crazy Scooby Doo type intro in my mind, so before I proceed,
Unfortunately, I can't say much because the way I act here is the same way I act in real life.
Give or take a few traits.

Edit: Changed video, after someone pointed out an error.

Pretty much what im like right now.
I hate it when people are fake to me so i try not to be fake myself.

I see no point in trying to act differently than who you really are, Online or offline.
Especially because most of the time the true you will break through when you least expect it.

I'm pretty close to me in real life as well, I agree that this is a good community, never really felt like I could talk to strangers before and feel completely comfortable. No one going "Lolz ur opinyun suckz nd myne iz rite" and barely any trolls. It's like an Internet haven for when the idiots of youtube and other forums get on my nerves. When they do I just come here and relax.

So, basically what you see here is what you get. Overall a kind, good natured person who enjoys a good laugh.

The true me is a little Rash on people who seek out to hurt others or really Criticize people for their grammar, when really, its nothing big. This is generally how I act, I try to just simply be nice ever since My first few forms got a very loved (or hated) person, Maxthereaper banned. I don't want that to happen to anyone else, so I try to be nice as I always would in real life, yet put my personal thoughts in everything.

Edit: Also JulianKing was my first friend, so I say he is pretty nice as always, Cause I never seen him do anything here that was really "Out of line".

I'm completely different on the internet, in real life I'm withdrawn and skeptical about voicing my opinion especially to strangers. on the internet I can say anything and I don't have the same irrational fears of criticism I have in real life...
Edit: I have low self esteem what can I say...

I am the exact same person online, with my friends in real life, with my superiors at work, etc.

I see no point in lying about who I am. One of the main things in this universe you can rely on is that reality will not change because you don't like it. There is absolutely no reason to lie to yourself or others about... well, anything really. It won't change anything.

Online I'm actually more myself than I am in real life.

In real life, I am well, kind of an asshole, an arrogant asshole, who thinks he's better than you. That's not who I really am though, that's just kind of who I am to fit in, since being the nicest and most sensitive guy in your grade usually gets you no where.

Online though, I am my true self, that is, I try to respect people as much as possible, and I also really like being supportive and helpful. And, very contrary to the "real-life" me, all I really want is for other people (as long as they aren't terrible people) to be happy. Seeing and knowing that other people are happy just gives me kind of a warm feeling inside.

Definitely let loose with the way I really feel about things happening around me online more than real life. A good place to vent the frustrations that are best left unsaid around the people we deal with every day. But other than that, I am definitely myself.

It depends, really. Due to the relative anonymity I am afforded, I'm a bit more...open about violent thoughts than I would be in real life. For example, as a student teacher, students come first! They are first and foremost on my mind while I'm at school. Or, when I was a lifeguard, I am very courteous to guests.

At home, I am still somewhat restricted. What I wouldn't give for a deserted island and time alone with my brother. I'd use his body as fuel for my signal fire.

But yes, it depends on the situation. My True Self is...reactionary? There are times that I troll several threads (when I'm bored, I fall back on the tried and true "Clearly, this is a publicity stunt for Dante's Inferno" in Politics & Religion), but I'm not sure if that's really trolling, or zany humour.

I really don't know who I am yet, still being young.

Sometimes I naturally act like a complete asshole, other times a kind-hearted soul, sometimes just ignorant to the world around me, other times just kind of observing everything and staying out of the fray.

I just want to figure out who I am. That's all.

Online I'm more quick witted and make every other person I chat to laugh. But in real life I just sound like a tard when I open my mouth. I don't know why but as more and more people are around me my brain gets exponentially slower. I guess it is just a big self esteem issue I have and I just close up.
