With Left 4 Dead 2 announced, I would like to hear (read) your ideas for zombie games. Maybe they're not modern time zombie games, maybe they're in medieval Europe or something of the sort. Hell, maybe they're in the 50's (I'd really hate that).

As for me, I would like to see a game where you're in the Viking age and where the game is similar to Left 4 Dead, but you use Viking weaponry and ships. Zombie Viking - who doesn't like the sound of that? Same would go for pirates, samurai, ancient Rome, Spartans, ect, ect.

My best zombie game is called "Garry's Mod - Rocket Launcher V. Zombies."
It's the greatest game of all time.

Think Grand Theft Auto in terms of layout/appearance, but with the ability to go inside buildings.

Then add zombies similar to Dead Risings.

In other words: A zombie sandbox game.

Either that or a zombie apocalypse RPG.

Mine would be re-enacting the stories from World War Z. There'd be cutscenes introducing the storytellers who then speak to the journalist and you begin te mission in flashback form.

Sort of like Mafia in the storytelling sense.

A third person shooter (like MGS4), with RPG elements and an open world style gameplay.

You want Viking Zombies? Play Rune. Maybe not pure Romero undead, but close.

My own ultimate zombie game is actually a trilogy.

Night of the Living Dead - An adventure game with some resource management and Planescape: Torment-style dialogue depth. Not a lot of action in Night, but plenty of drama.

Dawn of the Dead - Tactical combat. You've got your squad of four, running perhaps some tutorial missions getting chopper fuel, then securing the mall. Jagged Alliance with zombies. Maybe you can even keep Flyboy from screwing everything up.

Day of the Dead - This one isn't as cut-and-dry. Much harder to translate into a game genre. I'm open to ideas.

Kind of Like mass effect, but i don't enjoy the 3rd person and much as i like 1st person, i just like the RPG leveling up style and the changing of the story line based on your decisions, but i like zombie anything so....

Something like L4D, but slow all the zombies down and make them harder to kill.

A zombie game based in England where you use anything you can - Bricks, irons, coat hanger kitchen knife, broomstick ect ect. Similar to shaun of the dead in terms of reality and number of zombies.
Being England the use of guns would be minimal. You may occasionaly find a pistol in some crackhouse. The main aspect of the game is being able to interact with the environment to get new weapons like in "The warriors" where you use a "trash can" on someone and out of that comes a bottle, then a broken bottle from that.

Oh damn you for stealing my thoughts.

Although, in my mind, Mafia didn't enter the equation, seeing as I've never played the game. I was thinking more of Hitman: Blood Money in terms of flashbacks, although I don't suppose it matters, its still a flashback.

An FPS survival horror that has no guns in it for the most part. In the day, Zombie activity isn't at it's peak, at night, they come out a lot more. They can run, and so can you. In buildings, you are safe, but your objective takes you across a city-scape, so staying in buildings won't help you. Imagine it.

You're running, being chased by a group of 5, hooded youth-zombies down a long road. You begin to tire, and one jumps on you. Adrenaline kicks in, you gain your strength, the others pile on. It results in a frustratingly scary "Press X not to die" sequence, and slowly you push them off. If you fail the X-not-to-die, you are either bitten alive, or infected. Once infected, you survive for a while longer, only to become a zombie.

I must try this game then.
Those ideas sound good, if only they would be made...

Definitely an open-world L4D.
There's nothing else I need then an open world, mildly scary atmosphere, a post-apocalyptic city, and a shitload of zombies to kill.

My ultimate zombie game is Resident Evil 4, but actually they're "not-zombies".

My friend and I have mused over his and we thought that the ultimate zombie game would be a GTA meets L4D game. Open sandbox world with gritty "realistic" look and feel but the streets are FILLED with the walking dead. The point of the game... stay alive and find survivors. You could find vehicles and upgrade/armor them. Raid the local gun store, you get the idea. You would actually play a GTA type game where you are SUPPOSED to run over everbody.

This is a fantastic idea. I would geek out something fierce if this was in development.
