Ok, so. Imagine that Matt Smith has finally quit from being the Doctor, and auditions are open to be the twelfth incarnation. Taking into account the popularity of the show and the legacy of the Doctors past, what kind of character traits would you try to portray? Or, in other words, what would you do to put a new spin on a much-loved character?

I'd definitely go for the "Mad Hatter"-type of character. With a dash of Discord just because. Reconfigure the TARDIS gravity so it cahnges from room to room and make rooms change places all the time.
Yeah, my Doctor wouldn't survive very long probably.

I read that as mad hitler at first.
That would make for some intresting episodes...

OT: Dickwad, just for shits and giggles.

'Whats that Amy, yes the sun is pretty, hell WHY NOT GO INTO IT'
*push out TARDIS*

I'd quite like to do a more arrogant and amoral Doctor. Not enough to make him a 'bad guy', but I'd give him a certain swagger and an anarchic sense of humour, a 'space cowboy' if you will. The guy has roamed time and space for thousands of years and has faced down the very darkest challenges the universe has put in front of him. I think a guy like that has reason to be a bit full of himself.

I'm thinking something like the good twin of Alex from A Clockwork Orange. Scary, unpredictable, potentially psychotic, but at the same time really interesting.

As I see it for the Doctor you need to be world weary whilst being incredibly enthusiastic, scary as hell whilst being utterly charming, not sure I could pull it off.

But my Doctor would probably be closer to Eccleston then any of the others.

I'd like to make mine like the 'master' from David Tenants time as the doctor, except not y'know evil.

I would ask for an episode especially where the Doctor snaps, teleports the Tardis into the writers room, and beat the stupid tw*ts to death. Seriously.

I'd make a terrible Doctor.

I literally look like a thug. Anything resembling intellectual talk coming from my mouth would be akin to Stephen Fry storming into a bar and heabutting random people.

Large tattoo'd skinhead with a thick Lancashire accent.

"Aye lad, that be Tardis. Now piss off fore I shove this sonic crowbar down your throat".

It just doesn't go.

Plus I have zero patience for incredible stupidity.

"Help me Doctor, I went wandering off in this strange building through a door that had a sign saying *keep out you stupid moron or you will die* ..... help me Doctor".

*Insert sound of Tardis leaving*

"Bollocks to that flower, it's lunch time an I want me some Black Pudding (if anyone adds a *thats racist* to that i'm going to hunt you down and choke you with your own intestine)"

Voila, the British black pudding.

And yes I had to explain myself seeing as some people on this site are political correctness gone mad.

Me as the Doctor?

Oh shit. Earth is doomed. The Daleks win. End of story.

Honestly - and I know this is going to sound sacrilegious - I never really caught on to Doctor Who. The plotlines are pretty contrived and it seems every time something goes awry, the Doctor comes in with a miraculous solution to the problem.

Maybe I'm missing something, but the entire premise of Doctor Who reminds me of some of the worst godmodes imaginable. Which is something you'll probably understand if you've ever participated in pen-and-paper or browser-based RPGs.

I remember seeing a sketch somewhere where Rowan Atkinson played the Doctor and subsequently regenerated into Hugh Grant, Stephen Moyer and, yes, Joanna Lumley. It was awesome and completely pointless, and it summed up the spirit of the series pretty nicely, at least to me.

Plus - I really wouldn't mind the Doc having boobs. I'll now ready my armor and shield, as I'm sure I'm about to earn a hailstorm of flames for daring to attack such a sacred institution.

I really hope your joking.

Someone told you "Black Pudding is racist!" with a straight face?

People arent that stupid, surely.

I mean come on now!

Dive straight off the deep end of insanity. especially just coming off of regeneration, the Doctor's always been strange, but I think it'd be fun to have a Doctor that was completely insane.

I try not to be terminally thick. Waving the sonic screwdriver around and then coming up with exposition doesn't make you a clever person.

On the other hand, his opponents are terminally useless as well, so maybe he just can't be bothered.

Actually, that'd make a cool Doctor...the Dalek invades, but he knows they are hopeless, so he spends most of the time watching TV, promising to deal with them sometime in the afternoon.

I think I'd probably try and go for the angry side of David Tennant during the run up to his "death". When he was getting all angst-y about not being able to change time (See the ending to The Water of Mars)
I always wondered if they could pull of a story line when the Doctor finally snaps and becomes a villain for a bit.

Nobody has said it "yet" but some people i've noticed around here are rabid when they see something that could be taken as even slightly "racist" such as Black Pudding.

I've no doubt in my mind at least one person who dwells on the "politics and religion" boards would find *Spotted Dick* sexist.

And there lies one of the reasons I visit that part of the forum. Some of the people there are mental to the point of hilarity.

"Well that wa.." Goes cross-eyed "...is that my nose? Mirror!"

Runs off to locate a reflective surface.

"That is my nose! I could ski down that! Well almost, and that chin!?"

Turns to companion (offscreen).

"My chin looks like a battering ram... ..again. Uhg, and I wanted to be a redhead this time around... ..I'm wearing a bowtie?"

Doctor stares at reflection.

"This, I like, but its wrong, no no."

Runs off, returning seconds later in a dress, twirls and looks at his companion (offscreen).

"No, I didn't think I could pull this off, one moment."

Runs off again, returning in black jeans, workboots, a shot silk shirt and a labcoat with multiple things poking from the pockets.

"Always wanted a labcoat, so many pockets!"

Holds up a pair of safety goggles over his eyes.

"Too much? Probably too much."

Flings them away.

Companion: "Who.. ...what are you?"

"Me? I'm the doctor my dear, new face, new body, old mind." Pause "Well mostly old mind, besides the more important question today is. Who are you?"

Camera pans to companion, who is a completely different person to before.

I would be more like a cross of Tennant and Eccleston, completely insane until you hit the right nerve and I play the "I'm the Doctor and I will End You!" card. Be a bit more schizophrenic too.

I'd be manipulative and analytical. Play enemies off against each other and once they weaken themselves fighting deliver the killing blow
