So this was just announced...

So, this is interesting. It's not THE Zelda U, but a bit of a spin-off for Zelda based on Dynasty Warriors, and made by Tecmo.

So fellow Zelda fans, what do you think about it? Not gonna lie, I'm already excited! :D

For people with little interest in Zelda, or no interest whatsoever, I want your opinions too!

EDIT: It seems as though the new tentative title is "Hyrule Warriors" though that probably isn't even the final name.

This was really out of nowhere. I hope the character selection is huge. I want to be able to play as Gorons, Gerudo Thieves, Zelda, Shiek, Ganondorf, etc.

I wonder if it will include artistically varied Zelda characters like from Windwaker.

Considering it's probably not canon, I would love to be able to play as different Links with different abilities, along with other characters. It would be great to play as the likes of Zelda and Ganondorf in a non-Smash Bros. context.

Two words: local multiplayer.

If the game has that, I just might buy a WiiU for it.
Not only that, but an online Four Swords mode. That would be really interesting. Though it all depends if Dynasty Warriors has a strong online function in the first place. Nintendo isn't the best at implementing online functions by themselves.

I hope they add more variation into.... everything that's not Link in that trailer.

Not a big Zelda fan, but I guess I'll give it a look. I intend to buy a WiiU for X but still not 100% sold on the console's library. I'll keep an eye on it but it doesn't look particularly amazing as of yet. The trailer makes the gameplay feel a bit shallow somehow. Like the combat doesn't appear to have the kind of impact as it does in most Beat'em'ups.

I guess it's in early stages though, a lot could improve by release.

Wow while I'm not a big fan of games like Dynasty Warriors, this game has got me interested. I Especially like Link's scarf!

I wonder if it'll have some type of strategy system where you can contol the guards to your benefit?

I see they're taking the designs for Bokoblins and Lizalfos from Skyward Sword, and I'd prefer them to look elsewhere. I haven't found the design in SS to be as charming as the others. At least King Dodongo is there in his OoT glory.

Still really happy, and glad they're branching out.

Although I'm not a fan of LoZ, and haven't gotten one since Twilight Princess during the Wii Launch in 2006, this has my interest for some reason. I might consider picking it up if Future trailers are much better then this current one (A few bad textures, a couple of framerate drops, and the Standard Enemy not doing anything).

Also, I wonder where this will fit in in the Zelda Timeline? Could this be the Hyrulian Civil War?

Since it's a spin-off, I would say it has no place in the timeline. It may come with a story of some kind, but I doubt it's an official Zelda game.

If I had to place it in the timeline, based on the designs of Link and enemies, it would take place before Skyward Sword in some way.

Funny you say that, when I saw the scarf it made me think of this Link from the manga.

He has a shoulder armor piece with a scarf/cloth just like the Link in this game. I wonder if that was on purpose.

That's the greatest pic of Link I've ever seen...though now I'm wondering if this new game will draw more influences from the manga than the game series.

I'll be honest, this looks generic as all hell. Both visually as well as mechanically.

So it's basically Dynasty Warriors wearing a Zelda skin. Running around a completely barren landscape brushing aside countless mooks. And the visuals couldn't be more dry and tasteless if they tried. I don't know what the hell they were going for, but if you hadn't told otherwise I would've thought this was some joke trailer someone made in his free time.

It's possible, I think this game will probably take aesthetics from several games as we see from the trailer. The enemies look like Skyward Sword monsters, King Dodongo from Ocarina of Time, Link looks a lot like Twilight Princess Link, etc.

Hopefully they will add more Zelda-ish enemies to give it more of a unique feeling as opposed to just being Dynasty Warriors with a Zelda skin. I've never played Dynasty Warriors so I'm a bit interested to try out a "beat up a whole bunch of guys" game. I have more faith in it mainly because I don't think Nintendo would let some other developer use the Legend of Zelda without ensuring the quality of the game, except the CDi games, though we don't talk about those. :p

The environments just look completely flat and textureless though. Like it was made in some Dynasty Warriors level editor. I hope to god for the fans' sake that this is unfinished footage. I had to do a double take with those trees. Dear god, they look bad.

I know Tecmo doesn't have the best record in making visually appealing games, but with the Nintendo name attached you'd imagine atleast some flair.

I'm sure this is an early build, I see where it looks kinda flat and boring. Hopefully Tecmo will just be building the combat engine, and maybe Nintendo EAD will work on the environments. Plus, it says the name is not final, it's safe to say this is early development.

That would definitely be a plus; I suspect Zelda would be like a fragile but powerful long-range fighter while Sheik would be a swift ninja. Gorons could be slow bruisers. There is a lot of potential there. Still, even if it's just Link he obviously isn't starved for options what with the Fire Rod and the bombs

This is at the same quality level of those One Piece and Gundams games, sure they can be fun but to consider it anything then just a mindless time waster is wrong.

I didnt saw this level of praise with those games but since this is Zelda and on the WiiU then its something special and worth our attention even though its exactly in the same situation as the other games (except with a more vocal fanbase).

I think this looks awful. It's nothing more than a cheap cash-in aimed at the weeaboo crowd. This is literally the last thing I ever wanted from a a Zelda title. I understand it's a spin-off but it just looks so pandering and dull.
