My friends and I were playing a monotonous game of Monopoly, when we realized that we have the board game ZOMBIES!!! as well. Instead of retiring our current session of Monopoly we decided to join to two in grotesque union. You'll need

a) The monopoly game
2) something to use as zombies

You play Monopoly as you normally would, but at the beginning of the game, you put a zombie on the board who moves in the opposite direction on the players. After everyone has gone, the zombie rolls one dice and moves accordingly. Any space he lands on becomes quarantine, an you don't have to pay rent for it. If the zombie lands on a space that a player is on, another zombie is placed on Go. Any money the zombie receives goes in the middle of the board (once, he landed on community chest and won a beauty pageant). Any player can pay $200 to exterminate any zombie, then place that money in the center of the board. Then, play until someone, or the zombies control the entire board.

Have fun!

EDIT: If you have any ideas on how to make it better, feel free to post that as well.

So is 'quarantine' a one-time thing, as in, it only applies when the zombie is actually on the square? And by 'zombies control the entire board' do you mean that every single square is taken up by a zombie? or what? Seriously, this 'quarantine' thing confuses me.

Sweet. Now I want to do this to every board game. The Zombie Hunters of Catan. Zombie Risk. The Game of Death. There's a lot of potential here.

Pretty cool idea. I mean, needs a little fiddling around with to make it extra-special, but certainly a good start.

If I had friends I'd try it. >_<

So just paying $200 at the start to exterminate the one starting zombie isn't an option? Or is that an example of game theory at work, as nobody wants to be down the 200 bucks?

It is only quarantined while the zombie is on it. And yes, that is what I mean when I say "zombies control the entire board". After a while, the game becomes about defeating the zombie menace, and less about making money.

Well exterminating the first zombie just spoils all the fun now doesn't it!? Usually, people don't mind a few zombies on the board. The most expensive rent on the board is boardwalk, and the rent is about $50. I mean, that's a $10 loss.

But if you're going to build houses and hotels, you have a vested interest in getting rid of the zombies. Hmm. A game theorist or an economist would have a field day with this.

I guess you'd have to have the rule where you can exterminate all but one Zombie otherwise they may not last too long :)

I applaud you sir. This is the first version of monopoly I've seen in the last 10 years I think I would enjoy playing.

It kinda feels like someone decided to combine Left 4 Dead and Roller Coaster Tycoon.

Edit: Question - How do the additional zombies move? Does one die control all the zombies or what?

Indeed, they all move the same amount of space. This saves time, but if you want to roll individually I suppose you can..

Zombie Hunters of Catan would actually work...

Zombie Diplomacy, Zombie Shanghai Trader, Zombie City Fight, Zombie Ogre. I'm seeing a lot of potential for this...

This is madness.
Madness? No. THIS. IS. MONOPOLY.

I couldn't resist.

In the interest of adding actual content, I'm mentally working out the kinks in the Zombie Hunters of Catan.
First off, you have to start with the expansion set, since the zombie will start in the extra desert. At the end of each player's turn they move the zombie one space on the roadways. When the zombie gets to a settlement or city, that's when the Risk dice come out. Standard Risk rules for attack and defense apply.

If the town wins, the zombie goes back to the desert. If the zombie wins, a city is downgraded to a town, or a town is wiped off the map. The owner of the town also has to discard half their hand. There are now 2 zombies on the map, and the players can choose which of them they want to move.

Cities get a defense bonus. When a knight card is played, the player has the choice of either moving the robber, or moving the zombie back to the desert. Also, the owner of the largest army gets a defense bonus as well.

I realize this is really rough, and there are holes all over, but I kinda like it.
