if he just did them whenever he could, as fast as he couldthen people would check his site more often hence getting the site more views and more money.

What money? He's getting money for his reviews?

I thought all he's getting is money from the Escapist shop.

He gets a salary, he turned another site down because The Escapist offered considerably more for his videos. He gets all his games paid for too.

I see. Well, all professional reviewers have free games (or at least until they finish the review), so I understand that.

Thanks for explaining.

I prefer quality over quantity. Besides, he's already running out of games to review as is.

No problem , I read an article about it and The Escapist's 400% rise in traffic thanks to Zero Punctuation. I don't remember where I saw it though, sorry.

Yahtzee doesn't own or run the Escapist either. If you take a look around you'll notice many other weekly articles and videos avaliable for your viewing pleasure. Hence the 'magazine' part in the site's URL.

He doesn't own the escapist, he gets paid by contract.

Anyone know what this guy is talking about? This thread makes no sense, and the OP even less so.

This thread makes my brain hurt. Perhaps this would be a good opportunity to put the advice in this other thread to good use:

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.94605?page=4#1471681

So, how do we slap some sense into this new guy? Whiffle Bats? Ping Pong paddles?

Quite frankly I'd rather the sort of ilk that doesn't stay around for the rest of the magazine didn't come regularly, advertising revenue or not.

Also, these things take time. He has to write a script, OK it, discuss it, then produce it, and that's not including actually playing the game he is critiquing (yes that's a word, look it up!)

I suppose my point is that he probably arranged a release schedule with his bosses that allows a constant and consistent output of quality.

And this is how you reply to a nonsense topic with a valid argument. =]

I did speak to him in PM and here are the results of which:

sooperg:

that he should do it at random so that people check him more often therefore getting him more reviews.

ravens_nest:

No, as others in the thread have stated, increasing the quantity of reviews would lead to deterioration of the quality. It takes him about a week to play, write, animate and upload the reviews anyway. I'm frankly amazed he has never missed a deadline.

sooperg:

i just want him to do it whenever it's convenient. like mirrors edge took im one day to play and frankly my good sir it only takes one hour to make a vid like his in windows movie maker. and also he uses a reviewers trick. he adds to his reviews sound clip by sound clip. as in he will play then talk recording a clip making a comment. and as for his comments on game endings you can find those all over youtube. as you can probably see i just symplified how ZP does it in 10 mins.

ravens_nest:

He still has to write his material and come up with and edit the little jokes etc which make the reviews as unique as they are. He also previously stated in a video that it takes him a few days to animate the videos and source all the pictures for them.

I wouldn't want to listen to the opinion of someone who only played a game for one hour. When you place something like GTA4 in his lap it will take him a good few days to play and write his immensely popular reviews on it. Don't forget the man has a life and probably a full time job to do as well.

If you have a problem with how long it takes him to do a review go and tell him. You can message him through his profile. On the grounds that A) He wont care what you think (just the way he is - nothing personal) B) The Escapist hosts the videos and contracts him to do one episode per week. No more, no less.

ravens_nest

He hasn't replied since so I guess he's not coming back...

Do you really think once a week is enough? Not to mention how well the time-scale is stuck to.

as others have said.. id rather he keep doing them once a week, or take longer if he thinks they can improve them... i find him hillarious and i would much rather he takes time to perfect the video than he rushes it out, half-assedly..

also to the person who said escapist traffic has gone up 400% .. i just want to say that im only here now because i saw ZP videos

I think the OP means Yahtzee's site. http://www.fullyramblomatic.com/ That is the one Yahtzee owns and runs himself. I think he gives a link to it at the end of every video!

Possibly, but I kinda doubt it. He doesn't update it very much (especially as of late), so if you only go by the news page on his site, you'd be missing a lot of his reviews. And if you go to the "reviews" link, he just links you to his page at the Escapist.

So to me, this looks like a classic case of "Yahtzee owns the Escapist and there is nothing else on the site other than the forums, which I'm only at so I can brag about how much I like Yahtzee" syndrome. If I'm wrong...well ok, but that's just what it looks like.

Now to be fair, the only reason why I originally came to the Escapist was for Yahtzee. But the forums were interesting enough for me to join, and eventually I found some other things on the site (Unskippable, especially) that I enjoy as well.
