Its not. Its the same logic that sees people saying being critical of the Israeli government is anti-semitic, or being critical of US racial history is somehow anti-American.

Well no, actually. For the first part Chinese isn't a race, its a nationality. For second the infamously repressive and revisionist CCP would absolutely lie to the world and its people about the true number of dead, and enforce that lie, and anyone who speaks out gets a fatal number of bad boy points. Tiananmen Square Massacre not only being illegal to mention, but simply Western propaganda and it never happened and no you didn't lose an uncle there, you never had an uncle. Never underestimate the control the CCP has over its people, and the length they will go to hide the truth and "edit" the social understanding of what's real.
Oh, they're also trying to put a fresh spin on utter disaster, as well. A party which presided over a decade of cuts to the health service, and a government/ cabinet that presided over the worst death toll in Europe, trying to spin the successful vaccine rollout as Tory efficiency... despite the fact that it was managed and organised by the NHS, quite without the cabinet's help.
Particularly grotesque was Johnson claiming that the Oxford/ Astrazeneca vaccine was an example of how "greed" and "capitalism" work for us... even though the project was approximately 99% publicly-funded, not a "capitalist" endeavour.
Uhrm, right, but 450 million is an utterly insane speculation. It would be utterly impossible to hide a toll of that magnitude, considering that we still have tourists, students and professionals travelling to and from China. Not to mention the fact that a drop of a third of the population would cause total economic and societal collapse.
(To be clear, obviously the toll isn't 4,500 either; that's an inane lie the government spouted).

Does anyone else think SilentPony just didn't actually multiply 4,500 by 100,000? 450 million secret deaths is absurd. You don't have to be a fan of the Chinese government to recognise that the amount of deaths they are keeping secret is much lower than that.

Outside of news reports did you notice the 600 thousand deaths here in the states? Or if your not in the states, the number of deaths from where you are? Outside of someone you know dying, probably not. The earth could lose 20% of its human population (over a billion people) and depending on where you are, you could not see any difference.
I mean yeah, reality can be a pretty revealing thing to those not used to it. Wait until you learn about Asia, it'll blow your mind.
We knew things were worse than China said they were early on, we'd know if the Chinese were just letting the virus rip through the population, China is not nearly as locked down as North Korea. I'm pretty sure we had accounts and pictures of the draconian lockdown they were doing IIRC (I don't feel like googling that). If you smother the virus like that, you can very much limit infections afterward as you can actually do contact tracing then.
With a virus that has a fatality rate of 0.23%, 450 million deaths is impossible. Even say assuming China did let the virus rip, literally every person in China got infected, and their healthcare got overwhelmed resulting in a very high 1% fatality rate because people couldn't get care, that equals to 14 million deaths.
