And apparently, protesting that cops can literally get away with murder is "spoiled rotten ninnies", and wanting reform in a way that means they don't send a police thug with a gun to a mental health call is also "spoiled rotten ninnies".

People are protesting Police Brutality.
Surely the best way to stop that is to beat them up. That'll show'em!

I feel like these are the same people who watch Star Wars, see the Empire Vaporize planets and unironically say "The Empire did nothing wrong" and "Rebels are spoiled brats. I don't see why they're so upset".

I don't think it will happen either (especially as protesters know this is going on) but the more and more they do this, the more and more likely that something like this occurs. Eventually someone is going to decide that their side is being pushed too far and now it is time to push back with a bullet. Or hell, they might roll up on a completely random citizen who is in the wrong place at the wrong time (it seems like they're targeting specific people, not just rolling up on random citizens but mistaken identity could easily happen) who genuinely believes that they are being the victim of a kidnapping.

Basically there is a very very very very very low chance of something like what I said happening...but that chance isn't 0. The longer they play Russian Roulette with snatching people off the street, the more chances that they have that they happen to hit the wrong person.

My concern isn't just for the precedent this sets, but also what happens if and when white supremacists with paramilitary delusions start using this as an excuse to kick shit off, and/or off-duty cops start playing along. Then the question ceases to be "are these federal officers operating in incredibly dubious legal ground", it becomes "are these domestic terrorists committing hate crimes".

Supposedly the cops are already playing along; the police union president is reportedly meeting with the acting head of the DHS, and the police commissioner claims cops are going around her.

People can be arrested and held for a period without being charged with anything. They have a right to a lawyer and a speedy trial. You likely know the rest of Miranda. I assume if needed, these people being "kidnapped" get that lawyer or are released quickly as they don't want to be sued for wrongful conduct. The lawyer can speedily move for Habeas Corpus. The right to peaceably assemble is guaranteed in the Constitution. But these people are at best providing cover to killers, looters and those that destroy property, including private and Federal property. They could be charged as accessories to all of that.

But the feds start disappearing people off the streets? No biggie. Ordinarily people who wear masks are not to be trusted, but these heavily armed men in masks and camo with no identifying marks seem harmless and totally legit.
