In another abuse of power move by Trump, he again, is trying to find ways to cut funding to Democrat controlled cities. Just as he tried to withhold FEMA funds to punish those who do not support him, he also sees this as a means to make his rhetoric about democrats making cities " hell holes" a reality by removing their federal funding so they will not be able to continue necessary services.

The president directed officials to identify “anarchist jurisdictions” and move to withhold funds as he tries to build his campaign around the unrest that has accompanied racial justice protests.

President Trump has directed federal officials to find ways to cut funding to a string of cities controlled by Democrats, citing violence amid protests against systemic racism in policing, a move that threatens billions of dollars for many of the country’s largest urban hubs as the president makes the unrest a centerpiece of his re-election campaign.
Mr. Trump laid out the directive in a memo, released Wednesday, to Russell T. Vought, the acting director of the Office of Management and Budget, and Attorney General William P. Barr. It accuses state and local officials of abdicating their duties.
“Anarchy has recently beset some of our states and cities,” Mr. Trump wrote in the memo, mentioning a few cities specifically: Portland, Ore.; Washington; Seattle; and the president’s birth city, New York. “My administration will not allow federal tax dollars to fund cities that allow themselves to deteriorate into lawless zones.”
With polls showing him trailing his Democratic rival, former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr., Mr. Trump has tried to shift the public’s attention away from his administration’s failed response to the coronavirus pandemic and to what he depicts as out-of-control crime in New York and other cities. He has seized on an uptick in crime and has tried to blame it on local Democratic leaders.
The president has repeatedly sought to paint cities as hellscapes that only he can save, regardless of how limited the violent outbreaks have been during broader protests against acts of brutality by police officers against Black people.
The memo, which was titled “Reviewing Funding to State and Local Government Recipients That Are Permitting Anarchy, Violence and Destruction in American Cities” and was first reported by The New York Post, ratchets up Mr. Trump’s argument. But the move is almost certain to face legal challenges, and Democrats and city officials reacted furiously. Officials in New York said they were reviewing their legal options.

So yea, Trump again is trying to illegally abuse his position to "punish" Americans for not supporting him. With all the complaints we have about Obama or Biden, or hell even Bush, this is just something that would not be an issue with anyone else in office and cements that the man is simply unfit for office and has no business running the country.

Word cannot possibly express how enraged I am that someone holding the office of president can make such statements without consequences.
He isn't even making a clear definition of "anarchy, violence and destruction" but is instead prompting officials to create a definition under which the states he is targeting will fit.
At this point waiting for november might not be an actual option for the americans.

'cities that allow themselves to deteriorate...'
I'm sure making them even poorer will help.
The republican dream is a demon-fuelled nightmare. Mind-boggling evil viciousness and petty vindictiveness, destroying parts of your own country because you judge them as not your team.

I hope his death is humiliating and painful and long.

Hhm. Makes sense. Californians have started moving out of the state because of the continued lockdown, especially San Fransisco from what I've read, if these cities stop getting this money when they have no interest in supporting themselves then it could lead to them being forced to deal with their problems.

Isn't this his MO when it came to covid emergency funding too? Well his base are surely gonna lap it up like the thirsty wardogs they are. But isn't there this sacred load of bollocks called the constitution which while am not overly familiar with it apart from when gun nuts start getting characteristically overdefensive, it seems like the kind of guidance people turn to with situations like this?

It was only earlier this year that California pretty much managed level the difference between the money sent to washington and the money received in funding/support.

States like Alabama and Mississippi are over $2 returned for each dollar sent.
California has been an economic pillar of the US and should be given far more leeway than the states that cannot make it on their own.

Why does such an economically strong state need money sent to it then?

Yeah, right?
It's like, in socialism, it's all about equality, man. Why do these capitalists in California demand more money when they're the richest state in the union? Shouldn't they, like, support other poor states?

I'm still waiting for him to die from the Wuhan virus. Along with the majority of DC regardless of political affiliation.

The post I replied to stated that since California was facing something of a downturn it was a good idea to halt support in order to force a certain course of action. Since California has, historically, been economically strong and contributed greatly I am arguing that even should they face a downturn they are, in a sense, owed the very same level of benefits that have been provided to less economically strong or stable states.

Yeah, right?

They are and they did. California gave more than they received, now the state might need some help and they deserve it, at least compared to states that have always received more than they gave.

Couldn't that same logic be applied to the bailout of big businesses then?

Are you putting a privately owned business on the level of a state? An entity that exists for the purpose of profit and one that exists to ensure the wellbeing of the population? I'm going to be a little large and say that if a business has contributed more in taxes than it would take to bail it out, and if it would benefit society as a whole then yeah, bail away.

Pretty on brand for Trump to start messing with one of the main revenue sources while ignoring glaring problems that are largely of his own making and would require him to admit fault in order to fix.

If your reasoning is that a large entity that's provided a public benefit in the past thus deserves to be supported in a time of weakness then yes, a large business like one that provides air travel all over the country would logically also fall under that criteria.

Makes sense? Since when is it legal for a president to use his position to illegally inflict harm upon his political opposition by illegally withholding federal funding that has already been designated to those states? This is a plain blatant example of abuse of power. Trump just thinks he has " magical authorities" that do not exist. This is just proving that all of Trump's own white house officials who have said that he is unfit for office are correct. the man is PROVING himself unfit for office with everything he does these days.

The reasoning is that federal funding isn't determined by political affiliation. That is illegal. It is just as illegal if California withheld their federal tax payments to then not need federal funding and used that money instead to pay for what Trump is withholding, but two wrongs do not make a right here. Trump should not illegally withhold any funding or designate who gets more funding due to political affiliation in the first place.

Yea it was and both are severe abuse of power violations and making a solid case why he is unfit for office.

You're begging the question.
