Yea, I had talked about this a bit on other threads, he has essentially put a Trump donor in charge of the postal service and is trying to make it more difficult for democrat areas to be able to vote by mail. Trump is pro vote by mail for Republicans and anti vote by mail for Democrats. Go figure.

He has actually been having his treasury department withhold funding to the postal service if they do not agree to his demands.

He has also been holding the post office funding hostage and demanding that democrats give up the money to the poor and unemployed for him to release it:

But see Trump thinks one thing applies to Democrats and the opposite applies to Republicans:

Voting by mail is a scam intended to de-legitimize on 2020 national elections. Dems have more than a few things in the air.

Post Office had been severely defunded since 2006. It keeps losing money every year and refuses to optimize. There is no clause for termination of employment in a contract of a post-office employee. You can't get fired from the Post Office.

It keeps losing money every year and refuses to optimize.
It lost a massive load of money because the government made it fund up-front a load of retirement schemes in a way other public and private sector organisations don't, thereby forcing it to cough up huge sums of money to fund these schemes.

And besides, it's a public service: people need to send and receive mail and packages, even in far distant rural places. It's far from unreasonable for the government to subsidise adequate basic services in less favourable geographic locations.

So, I'm going to go on the record as saying that some of the policies individually are not inherently bad ideas given decreases in the volume of letter mail and increases in package mail. Removing machines in order to increase space for packages is a reasonable approach given that shift in their used services. Removing public letterboxes that often have little volume to justify their location when you can relocate them to supermarkets, libraries and other more-trafficked locations would be a good way to increase the overall efficiency of mail carriers.

HOWEVER, the cumulative affect of all these policies happening at once puts the entire system at risk, as demonstrated in the video and other reporting. Rural areas are likely to be hit especially hard given the USPS is often the only carrier in the area making the "last mile trip" for packages, including for private carriers such as UPS and FedEx. DeJoy in particular is suspect because he's the first Postmaster General in generations who does not originate from the USPS labor pool and has operated competing companies that would benefit from the postal service in decline.

This, of course, is further exacerbated by the president's statements on voting by mail (discussed below) which has created a scandal that really can't be ignored.

The solution would be to first replace the Postmaster General and the repopulate the Board of Governors to rebuild trust in the system, and then give the USPS more latitude on the services (allowing it to operate as a very basic bank with checking and savings accounts would be a boon to rural and lower-income communities) it can provide in order to supplement mail services. The retirement payment scheme needs to be reformed to revert it back to be more consistent with public and private pension systems rather than the bizarre (and intentionally crafted that way) system of excessive pre-payment of pension funds. Finally, Congress should create a small statutory fund to allow the USPS to operate at a overall loss in the event that the service is no longer able to fund itself entirely on its own as the USPS is a public good that is necessary for a functioning state, even if it is not used as heavily as it has been in the past.

*cough* Absentee voting has been a thing since the civil war, five states have operated on near-universal voting by mail with a suspected voting fraud rate of less than 0.001% (2016) ("suspected" meaning referred for further investigation by law enforcement). Washington State had a referral rate of 0.004% in 2018, with Secretary of State Kim Wyman, a Republican, stating:
ā€œNo rate is acceptable,ā€ Wyman said of improper voting, adding that even the tiniest evidence ā€œdrives election officials crazy.ā€
ā€œBut it is also not rampant fraud,ā€ she said.

Lets all vote in absentia and just make the election results known in November. We'll keep it a secret till then.
Five states have it, which is cool (Hawaii only got it last year, so I wouldn't count it as a good example). Those five states are also pretty small. This won't excuse the absolute mayhem that will come from allowing this system in all 50 states, with very little time to test it, for over 200 million people. Bush vs. Gore Florida 2004 will be a nothing compared to 2020.

The post office isn't a business, it's a government service. Saying that the post office loses money every year is like saying the US Military loses money every year because they're not making a profit. That's literally not the point of it.

Voting by mail is not a scam any more than any other kind of voting is a scam. It has the same exact margins for fraud.

Department of Homeland Security Warns of Russia promoting attacks on Mail in voting.

Anyone surprised we have people calling it a scam as Russia is ramping up the disinformation campaign about it? Mail in voting is fine for Trump and other Republicans years just not okay for everyone else right?

Oh you poor sweet childlike little man. It does make me sad that because of the complete fuckwit we have as a president, someone who was making fun videos commenting on how legal scenes in tv and movies felt he had to speak up to combat the aforementioned fuckwit who is doing tremendous amounts of damage to the country, its institutions and the world in general.

Nothing was helped by Republicans forcing it to fund health benefits for retirees for seventy-five years.

Conservatives have been trying to kill the Post Office for 50 years.

And because it's necessary and people depend on it, it's refused to die *for 50 years*.

Started making money in the '90s so they tried that kill shot in '06 with the pension funding that no other agency has to do. And until Trump, it had a decent chance of unburying itself from the mountain of debt from the loans that the artificial time limit they had to fund those pensions in made them take.

If that doesn't tell you how necessary a functioning Post Office is, I dunno what will.

No modern-day right-wing voters have any business complaining about people "selling out" to make money. Making money is the core ethos of their political parties.

Check out this guy if you prefer. He's clearly made it his business model to appeal to the pro-Trump market.

I don't want to watch either of them at this time. I did watch Legal Eagle when he was taking on things like Bee Movie or Always Sunny's bird law episode.

I'm not sure what I did to inspire this comment. I think you may be confusing me for the caricature everyone else thinks they're responding to.
