I entirely don't expect this tread to be too serious because well yeh.....

Anyway

A member of the Swedish Parliament on Friday nominated President Trump and the governments of Kosovo and Serbia for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize over economic cooperation and trade talks.
This announcement marks the second 2021 Nobel Prize nomination for Trump, who received support from Norwegian Parliament member Christian Tybring-Gjedde on Wednesday over the commander in chief’s role brokering relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates.

He did get the UAE and Bahrain to recognize Israel.

Granted, I have no doubt that had more to due with backroom deals and the rising threat of Iran to the Arab world.

But still.

Its a start, and if he did manage that then kudos. That’s a genuine achievement worthy of recognition.

Much as I despise Trump, if history judges him as having played a role in brokering peace in the Middle East, then, yes, that is an achievement.

I mean, what did Obama actually do to earn his peace prize?

Forgive the headline on the second one.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nobel_Peace_Prize#Nomination said:
In 2009, a record 205 nominations were received,[13] but the record was broken again in 2010 with 237 nominations; in 2011, the record was broken once again with 241 nominations.[14]

[...]

Over time, many individuals have become known as "Nobel Peace Prize Nominees", but this designation has no official standing, and means only that one of the thousands of eligible nominators suggested the person's name for consideration.[16] Indeed, in 1939, Adolf Hitler received a satirical nomination from a member of the Swedish parliament, mocking the (serious but unsuccessful) nomination of Neville Chamberlain

Another way in which Trump is like Hitler?
Trump's is less likely to be satirical at least.

To be honest, I didn't know Hitler had been nominated till I went to grab the quote; I was more aiming at the 200+ people getting nominated each year stat.

I think Trump deserves the prize more than Hitler.

Granted, I think almost everyone living or dead probably deserves the prize more than Hitler. That's an extremely low standard.

Then again, US hasn't officially declared war since WW2 if you want to be technical
Always hate the argument that it isn't a war unless one is declared. (to be clear, I'm not accusing you of making that argument)
There are numerous events in human history (and prehistory) that are undeniably wars yet were not proceeded by any formal declaration.

To me, it's like arguing that a baked good isn't a cake just because the person didn't follow a cake recipe, despite it having all the characteristics of a cake.

I'd need more argument than that. The US has been involved in some form in each of those conflicts, but I'm not sure how it "started" them. For instance, a quick look at the Syrian Civil War page on Wikipedia, the amount of beligerants listed is insane. Yemen is scarce different.

The cake is a lie, unless there's a formal declaration from GLaDOS that it is, indeed, a cake.

Well, we are just practicing American police procedures on a larger, international scale.

EDIT: Anyway, I'm not sure about this. On the one hand, if he deserves it sure he should get it, just feels weird with the timing of it being both an election year and a year that has been pretty terrible in relation to his actually running this country.
