That's exactly what it is-- PR. And PR works.
I’m not saying it doesn’t work. Why do you think companies be so Woke? PR

I’m saying they are using what people like against them to score political points

I'm with Agema. Likeable. For the first time in a long time, I heard a President speak and I felt intelligence coming from the words. The attempts of comforting and togetherness. I was literally confused about this feeling of not completely experiencing rage the second I heard my President speak.

It has been that long.
Really? Whenever he talks all I can think about is that he's got hairy legs and is the husband of Biden and y'know, the thing!

Of course they are, and they're doing so quite successfully. That was precisely my point (and Agema's): that it's not an unrealistically low opinion of the public to say that people get easily influenced by a public figure putting on the pretence of having a pint and talking about the football.

You’re being played. They are, and have been for decades, been using you. Go have a pint with them. Don’t pretend that’s a good test because it’s just performative politics.

Isn't that what Silvanus said?

That we should be fine about their PR stunts like this? I don’t think I’ve agreed to this at all They’re agreeing that it’s all smoke and mirrors. But they haven’t said it’s a terrible idea - I.e. we may need a different metric for ‘down to earth’ politician

Edit: I’d also point out thr while people say the pub test is what they use with pollsters, maybe don’t believe that after this week. It something that Is said to appease pollsters
Not that many people ever go to a pub weekly. Not many watch sports anymore. AOC doing her massive Twitch stream a couple of weeks go was third biggest ever. I’d dare say that’s the future pub test. And itll be just as performative

Biden's gaffes and his creepy touchy-feely stuff is incredibly well-known. He's only likeable if you listen to him in curated 3 minute intervals where somebody's got him on a tight leash.

Edit: before somebody brings it up, the whole "oh, his little verbal mistakes just make him relatable", that is only possibly true until you remember all the world leaders he's going to be speaking to in the next 4 years.

You know who else had a whole bunch of funny little verbal mistakes that made him super relatable?

George W Bush

Someone being "relatable" shouldn't be very high on the list of qualities for The President of the United States

Trump talked about his member and how he has "no problems". Did you think about it every time you heard him talk for these four years?

Ah, I remember when they examined some advertising material put out by the Trump team, the photos were digitally retouched in various ways. We're well used to airbrushing and slimming people, but they also increased the length of his fingers.

Taxes will gradually increase for everyone earning under $100,000 a year if the revisions to the tax code the Republicans made back in 2017 are allowed to stand.

Likeable? The guy with the 'you ain't black' comment??? I guess he can fool some people into thinking he is much like Trump can for his people.
Yeah, likeable.

He made a dumb ass comment. If your life was under a microscope, how many dumb comments would people ride you over? Would it be the same for anyone else here?

Should I think Max Dood is dumb or unlikeable because of his N-word issue?

What about Max Kellerman?

Should we have kicked out Justin Trudeau for his Black face? Or is it just enough to call him not intelligent because he made an insensitive mistake that he thought would be a goof? Ted Danson also did it... Hell, thinking about it, we could just fill this whole section with insensitive black face.

I still don't have a problem with what Liam Neeson said. But understand, I think it was a dumb response. I think it was human. It was kneejerk, hot-headed and yes STUPID compulsion he had, but to base all of his intelligence or likeability over something he felt when we was younger and dumber.
Mark Wahlberg is a different case. I'm sure he made amends and actually got his mind right. But he BLINDED someone. He can repent, and i will accept that repentance. But that's more than a slip of the tongue or a stupid statement trying to seem cool. That's someone's life.
And that's the issue. There are degrees and we are human. There are things we say that we don't mean in a really bad way, but we know we're being playful. There are things we say in the heat of the moment that we wish we could take back. And then, yes, we have dumb moments.
It was a dumb moment of Biden. Other than prejudiced people, I'm sure most people would agree that it was a dumb moment. But I have dumb moments. And I remind you that you do to. Because we don't have the scale or the focus on a political leader doesn't make it less dumb. Just more lucky for us that people aren't paying attention.[/URL]

Don't give a fuck about the people you listed. My judgement isn't comparative. Although you're going off your rocker when you start blathering about firing Trudeau when all I did was suggest Biden isn't likeable. I'm not your fucking punching bag for whatever issue you imagine so get some perspective.
