That Trump wants to help the American people is a conspiracy theory. Trump's conduct across decades, and as attested by his clinical psychologist niece and many others who know him, would demonstrate his monstrous selfishness and self-regard. He is petty, cruel (as described by his sister), and vindictive. He does not give a shit about any of you.
Let's be clear here: that spending bill he's complaining about was negotiated by his own treasury secretary. If he didn't know what was in it to complain about it long ago, then he's lazy and incompetent. If he did, then this sudden ruckus is a sham. As for the $600, negotiations for how much Americans would get have been going on for long enough and again, he had plenty of time to throw his weight behind a larger amount. Instead, he just threatens to screw with it at the last moment.
He's basically just a prick who is in temperament and competence unfit to be president.
Wait you hold the belief that Trump secretly won the election but that everyone, including members of his party and his most devoted cronies conspired to crown Biden instead. You think the election was stolen and yet this seems like a conspiracy theory to you?

I.e. not actually what Americans want. Just what Trump pretends they want... You know, like how slavers thought they were helping slaves by putting them in chains. Trump thinks if he just gives most (like 90%) of the money to rich people, and they will fix the problem. Because only rich people are smart and know how to use money. Poor people are poor because they are stupid.
I'd agree that he is capable of trying to help the American people, it's just that he has no inherent interest in doing so. His thinking does not get beyond "What's in it for me?" In that sense, him doing well by the American people essentially depends on how much his cripplingly pathological insecurity will be temporarily satisfied by immediate gratification of praise, love and admiration.
You said I should just move when I said most people I graduated with had given up on owning our own home. That's what lacked compassion, not just your general statement about life.
And it did. It's that kind of dismissive & aloof "let them eat cake" rubbish that shows how little interest someone has in actually connecting or understanding somebody else's situation.
Except nobody has actually said that, whereas you actually did say that most people are on a "march to prosperity as a rule". You actually made the statement I'm criticising.
Why are you even arguing this? His stance is that pointing out that a huge number of people are struggling is lacking compassion for people who aren't. How? By pointing that out? Are we inconveniencing the wealthy by saying there's inequality? We're not showing enough sympathy for people who have good lives by saying that others are struggling. It's like a parody of US libertarian bullshit. If someone in Black Mirror delivered that line I would think it was a bit on the nose and unrealistic.
