Terry Pratchetts Discworld series, definitely a good read. Jim Butchers Dresden FIles series is really good, a sarcastic wizard P.I. in modern Chicago, who rides a zombie dinosaur through the streets at one point, whats not to love? Also the Vampire Files by P.N. Elrod are really good.
