I only completed IX about a month ago, after never actually having bought it when it came out. I loved it, im re-playing VIII now, and it pales in comparison to IX, FFIX is just a much better game with better character and better gameplay. And despite the fact that its set in a fantasy world...

I guess the focus for most games these days is multiplayer. Take COD4 for example, yes, its a short and sweet single player, but on multiplayer you could happily play for ages.
