    The Big Picture: Arch-Villains

Any substance that provides pleasure has the ability to cause (mental) addiction. Strong physical addiction that nicotine, caffeine and some other drugs can cause takes a longer time to develope. There is nothing inheritly difficult in smoking only one tobacco a week or a day, but it may be...

    The Big Picture: Arch-Villains

Actually being fat, having a low social status (for example poorness) and bad eating habits are all strongly correlated between themselves. The rich and the educated have significantly better eating habits. Also fast food is significantly more expensive than home-made food. I can cook several...

    The Big Picture: Arch-Villains

I think there might be a bit of a problem in your central argument that tobacco is bad for you whereas hamburgers dont cause obesity...unless consumed by excessive amounts. In the scientific world of toxicology everything is bad for you if consumed in excessive amounts. Smoking less than once in...

FPS Multiplayer design needs to change!

Played it from the launch for several years due good friends. Superbly executed and the continued support from Valve is truly exceptional. Still the class gimmick that the game revolves around is not in any way fresh or new. Think about Return To Castle Wolfenstein that has been around for 10...

FPS Multiplayer design needs to change!

I apologize if I did not clarify myself clearly enough. The first point essentially was that the multiplayer design philosophy itself is obsolete and only manages to create a single type of experience and doesn't fit well if we want to create, for example, larger maps and longer rounds or...

FPS Multiplayer design needs to change!

I am sure we are all aware of the long term trends in the video game industry. Single-player gaming experience has becomn significantly shorter and less important, while games selling almost exclusively on multiplayer aspects, are creating untold amounts of wealth to companies like Blizzard and...

Game of Thrones to Become an Actual Game

I am surprised that no fan of the series has asked the most important question of them all. Can we beat the game by developing a strategy based on incesting and then sending our kids to be the heirs of an another noble house?

Oh, that? I learned it in a videogame

I learned most of the letters in the alphabet thanks to Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers -game which appeared in NES. Had they labeled the levels with numbers instead of letters, I could have becomn a skilled mathematician :D

    Women in the military

Yeah and when we go walk 15km carrying 50kg and dragging a medieval 'cannon' with us, spend a week or two digging trenches and pulling it up and down the hills, not getting enough food due weather, lying still in snow for hours in -20c while sleeping tops 2 hours per day, nightly marches with...

    Women in the military

Yeah, and I know for obvious reasons that main jobs of foot scouts is to observe enemy movement, strenght and guide artillery fire to their positions because theyre the only one around to see the enemy. There are a few jobs true but only very very few that are even comparable and even with them...

    Women in the military

I do have several infantry friends who went to do spotting and leading artillery fire and I do know it's still nothing compared to what scouts or anti-tank infantry does. Scouts with the job of doing forward spotting and reporting targets for the artillery are part of infantry, not artillery.

    Women in the military

This, of course, highly depends on the branch of military you look at. Sure, I dont mind having women in the artillery or communications for example. The training in many support branches such as these is hardly physical at all compared to frontline troops (although in a real war it might be...

    Women in the military

Finnish army has allowed women to serve conscription with males since 1995. I serve in one of the largest brigades in the country and so far only one female has been accepted to receive a frontline training... and she couldn't handle carrying her own weight for 15 kilometres so she quit...
