Myself I have:
gained better ability to work as a team from various co-op games.
Flexed the brain in Portal and Braid
and greatly improved my skills in english and some other languages :)
The battle at Dumais Wells.
Easily one of the best written battles of all times.
Love Rands perspective in it, especially when he meets up with the reinforcments.

I agree with some advice already posted. If you let it become a part of your lifestyle (not going to church etc.) people are eventually going to catch on. If the question is raised then meet it then and there with what you believe.
I've found quite a lot of threads here asking the question "Have you ever learned anything from a video game?" - it comes in various forms, such as the "What facts did you learn?" or "Has this game taught you any good morals?".
Whatever the form, answer or discussion afterwards was I want to...
Also I'm still waiting for a game that fully covers Robert Jordan's Wheel Of Time. So many likeable characters, so many hateable, all of them GOOD characters. ^^
I personally start to like characters when
A) The game has a good way of telling me about them
and
B) When they can still surprise me after I think I know them
Good examples of A are the audio-diaries in Bioshock, the propaganda on TV contra the rumors amongst the rebels in Half Life...
Latest Prince Of Persia.
The "WOOOSH!" and "WAZOOOOMZ!!" that follows every plate you jump from.
Also the whistling, sizzling, windnoise during flight.
Other than that, the Zeldagames "low-health-bippi-bippi-bippi-bippi"
