Gonna be the wild card and suggest XCOM: Enemy Unknown. Not much story, but more challenging than most SRPGs in recent years.
Pretty much anything from the Tactics Ogre series is also a close match. I'll vouch for the GBA (The Knight of Lodis) as being very FFT-y.
Another for constant reloading here. Long reload times or not actually reloading until the animation is finished (Left 4 Dead...) kill me. Also the "NEW" tag thing.
