If you still have a Gameboy Advance (I don't know if Gameboy SP will play it...) I'd suggest the original Pokemon Gold/Silver. Besides that I'd just like to point out that Black and White are actually extremely fun, even if they just ran their fingers along an animal dictionary.

Having some experience in graphics is a pretty good idea. Stick with it, even if you don't like it. I really dislike my psychology course, but I'm sticking with it because I'll never know how I can use the information I learn.
