Fallout has one of the most realized and evocative apocalypse and post-apocalyptic setting, so it gets my vote as favorite. As a long-time fan of the idea of a zombie apocalypse, I'll also say Left 4 Dead.
In recent memory:
Resident Evil 5 because it quickly ceased to be entertaining at any level.
Divinity 2 I lost interest.
Alan Wake I havent finished, but it was only because I was side-tracked by other games. I'll go back to it at some point.
Valkyrie Profile 2 I got to a point...
I'll join the chorus of those saying Dragon Age 2 is good. In fact, it's better than Origins.
I don't know if Prototype and Lord of the Rings: War in the North are hated, exactly, but I recall them getting bad press that doesn't seem at all deserved.
Similarly, I think people cry over...
I'd buy another installment in the Demons's Souls and Dark Souls franchise even if the next game had frame rate issues, too. They're solid games, and even minor problems such as that won't make me steer clear of games with this high level of quality.
This sounds like the best way to go. You could probably add 6 and 12, but their appeal is different than Tactics (which is a fantastic and well-written game) and 4 (which is pretty much the genesis of most Final Fantsy "mythology" such as it is). Final Fantasy 6 (along with Chrono Trigger) are...
In no particular order: Portal 2, Dragon Age 2, Hunted: The Demon's Forge, L. A. Noire, and Dark Souls. I'll get Skyrim when it comes out. This is the largest number of games I bought in years, but I have a feeling next year won't have as many games I'll want to purchase.
I have no interest in getting either game. The last fps games I played all the way through were Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2. All the most recent first person shooters just don't interest me, but I do have raised expectations for Bioshock Infinite now.
