It's a pity none of you guys are acquainted with the game enough to know what happened when it went retail, about the big fiasco and the giant rift between beta players and the development team. It was really quite a story...
I think if every game had freely-unlockable content (content that you could unlock as you wish, or chapters that you could proceed through as you see fit) then it would take all the novelty out of actually working through the game. Why work for something that you can already get?
