Why are there almost no RPGs set in the present?

Over 25 posts and no one mentions Earthbound? I'm amazed. I'd have to say if you're going to do a present-day take on an RPG, that'd be the way to go; same sort of world and level of tech, just kinda off here and there.

    Dynasty Warriors fans

DW7 is a good start, good to be introduced to all the new mechanics and people right away, and it's been released on PS3 and Xbox now. I'm having a lot of fun with Samurai Warriors 3, but if you don't have a wii I suggest Warriors Orochi 3. Not only does it have everyone from DW and SW, but...

    Dragon Age 3

I'll check it out for rental but I probably won't buy it. To be honest, Bioware's burned me on both DA2 and ME3, so my faith in them is at an all-time low despite producing some of my favorite modern action RPGs. Might give them another chance if there was serious talk of a Jade Empire 2.

Poll: Got a college project. shocked as hell that i can use this website. MLP poll. all welcome

I admit to being a fan of the show and the 'culture' that's sprung up, though I don't go out of my way to 'convert' others or even make regular MLP references in places where it's not quite appropriate. Like all fanbases, there are sensible people and lunatics, just have to not let the crazies...

    Poll: Invurnerablity, or Immortality?

Perhaps you simply regenerate a few moments later, presumably with magic. At any rate, I can't imagine a worse hell then existing in space and suffering from never ending asphyxiation. Although, immortality in the form of a energy-being that transcends the mortal form would be kind of sweet...

    ME3 Mulitplayer Thoughts

I love it, but I agree with a lot of sentiments here; it needs more variety. Hell, I'd have loved if they just made it it's own game, then tie it into ME3 a la Dust 512-EVE style. Knowing EA/Bioware, I have no doubt there will be more game extending DLC in the future, and as much as I disliked...

Gamers Ship 400 Cupcakes to BioWare in Protest of Mass Effect 3

I wish it was true, but of all the parts of a game to focus on, the ending should be a priority. This is especially true in a series that's been touting that 'every choice you make matters' since the very beginning. They're not being 'whiny children' by voicing outrage, they have a legitimate...

Gamers Ship 400 Cupcakes to BioWare in Protest of Mass Effect 3

I have to say, delicious confections is a much better way of expressing displeasure then violence. It certainly gets the message across but is much less aggressive and spiteful (so long as no one added laxatives to them or anything.)

    Green, Red, or Blue?

I went with green first, but after letting it soak in just how dumb it was, I went back and did blue as my 'Shepard-cannon' ending.

    Mass Effect 3 Ending Controversy

I'm not sure if it's been said already, but what's wrong with going back to the old leaked ending (besides everyone's already likely read it) they had, the one written by the original writer of the series? Fewer plot holes, fans get an ending that makes more sense, EA can keep producing games in...

Why do you not believe the indoctrination theory? *Major Spoilers*

I don't believe it because it would show tremendous foresight on Bioware's part. As I recall, The Final Hours pretty much said they had to throw something together quickly, and something this deep and methodical wouldn't just come about spur of the moment.. Also, every reason I've seen so far...

Renaming Earth, because its a boring name.

It's only boring because you heard it since the day you were born. In a way though, it doesn't really jive with the rest of the planet's names. Terra would be a good choice, but I've always been a fan of Gaia. Still though, Will Smith punching an alien and saying "Welcome to Terra" isn't nearly...

    Bioware Confirms Game Extending DLC

I don't know if it'll overwrite what we have, but at best I just hope it offers some closure for the characters and the galaxy. However, if it's more then 5 bucks I probably won't bite. And you can bet I'll read what other people think of it before I actually give EA/bioware more of my money.

    ME3 "Operation Goliath"

I enjoy the multiplayer personally, and think this is a great way to present challenges and rewards to those who take part. I'm not going to let 5 mins at the end of single player ruin the other 99.9% of a game I truly adored.

    Did anyone love ME3?

It's a fantastic game, and a great experience right up until the ending. Ultimately though, I think that's why it's caused as much anger as it has; everyone was thoroughly invested in the experience, waiting for a great climax only to get krogan-blue balls (Which, as most fans know, is twice as...
