Boneshaker, by Cherie priest. Its sequel, Dreadnought, is also brilliant. The Clockwork Century series went downhill a bit after that, with Ganymede easily being the weakest, followed by something of a return to form in The Inexplicables. Haven't been able to read the final book yet.

ChristopherOdd is the only serious let's player I watch, he's seriously underrated. As for comedic LPs, Game Grumps are good if you want to see a series on a game, and NerdCubed and VideoGameDunkey do great individual videos on games.

I would agree partly. I love the books but consider the movies better because they managed to seamlessly add in an important subplot that Tolkien couldn't fit and put in the appendices. Stay away from the extended editions. They add three hours of boring things that weren't even in the books.
